Puncturegeddon!
-
• #6253
Bah, no win this week then
-
• #6254
Or do you mean everybody O_o
-
• #6255
Puncturing was mandatory
-
• #6256
Somebody needs to start making bikes with bigger, tougher tyres....
-
• #6257
I'm marking that one down as a course for the hardtail
With a 2.4" magic mary on the front - fuck you slimy mud
-
• #6258
Found that quite good fun. On the technical end of the summer series spectrum. Next week should be a grass crit though, right?
-
• #6259
That was a blast - even taking the mandatory puncture into account!
-
• #6260
I think we could have done with caterpillar tracks tonight!
-
• #6261
Anything for some grip!

The Stanton's the bike with mudguards tho...

In an attempt to stifle my excitement at the season coming in, I decided to refresh my CX frame. Thoughts?

SSCX: I am updating my tricross with a bit of paint and new wheels.
Which options do I have for 120mm rim brake rear hub with splined freehub? I'd like to be able to change cogs from race to race and I don't like the thought of faffing with threaded freewheels in a muddy pit. -
• #6265
Not many options for 120mm cassette hubs. Google suggests the SunXCD, but it's expensive.
-
• #6266
Hmm. Have you ridden sscx with freewheel? How was your experience?
I rode last season with 130mm hubs I my 120mm alu frame, but I am worried I'll break the frame

Shimano 5-speeds were 120old, freehub and rimbrake. Minor bodges needed though...
-
• #6268
Did a season of freewheels. Pain to swap out, as you say, and not as reliable as cassette freehubs in my experience, even with White Industries freewheels.

That's what I feared. I have contacted @svendhΓΆek re his novatec hack. Maybe I can convert a road hub to 120mm by using a bmx free hub
-
• #6270
Could try out a dxr hub (112 old) built onto a 700c rim
-
• #6271
Needs more garish colours try pink to lime green fade.

I've been racing with freewheels. 18t on one side, 20t & 22t on the other. Only annoying thing is repositioning pads when jumping from one extreme to the other, only takes a couple of minutes though.
Look at bmx race hubs if you want splined freehubs, Profile Racing should have something in 120 OLD -
• #6273
Thanks. I'll investigate further.
I want it to be as light as a alu road rear hub ideally. -
• #6274
If money isn't an issue Profile Elites can be tarted up with Ti extras that Profile themself offer. Not really much room for adjusting chain line though and spacing is 110 but could be spaced out further (they might even offer specific cone spacers for it) as it's the male bolt that sits in the dropout.

So, what to expect from Beckenham on Thursday?
It will only be my 3rd cross race ever so I'm not expecting much personally, but what's the parcours like?
And should I go for Cyclocross Speed or Rocket Ron? I think they're the only options I have.
That was quite the ride out. Also...the weather. Wut is happening?!
