Polo team games

  • John, I'm up for playing tam games from 9 -12 (or whenevr Rich is finished). Is Cam confirmed as a third?

  • So can we play?
Team games days are a good thing but still fragmented if limited to 3 teams, even though it does make sense for time frame issues.
Do SB, NT, CosMic want to practice against new teams or should there be (controversial) categories? Perhaps it will stay private in order to avoid these two issues. Not necessarily a bad thing but it's still fragmented.

Ultimately, I would just like to play some polo tomorrow.

  • Rich isn't available until early afternoon, so if Cam wants to, we can play as Cam, Lebowski, Me.

  • I'm down with that. As always, I just want to play as much quality polo as possible.

  • Cool. 9am at Downs. Will Cosmic and SB be there or will it just be us?

  • Hah, we'll be there, we're always there, sometimes Ryan is late.

    So can we play?

Given that Ryan can only be around until midday, I reckon yourselves and Sirens should come along then and Spring Break will bow out for coaching duties while you play each other (and Rat Trap)? Cosmic usually leave at lunchtime too.

I agree that limiting teams can be lame and perhaps team polo categories would be a good thing, but who would draw the lines? I like to think that Spring Break would play anyone as long as you're keen and would encourage any newer teams (every London polo player) to try and score as many hours of team polo as possible. There is definitely some truth in the idea that most of the top teams want to play each other, but it would be a very sad/lame state of affairs if there were no cross-ability team games?

I'm keen to hear other people's opinions on how team games should be organised/whatever?

  • ryan is in at 9am

  • That means he's being called at 8.30am, he's not gonna be happy that it gets earlier each week?

  • Maybe openly organising team games at incredibly unsociable times will solve the problem. Cosmic are playing SB at 6am on Tuesday. All welcome!

  • As long as all of this doesn't effect the secret throwin sessions

  • It's called "solo polo" Pique...

  • Ha.

  • I'm down with that. As always, I just want to play as much quality polo as possible.

Cool, Team CaLeJo are in for 9am then.

  • It's not a shame that it's organised privately, it's a contingency. If you say 'team games tomorrow', people might say 'woo, yay, count me in', but at the same time you'll say 'oh but 5 teams is pushing it', and moreover, 'but turn up in a three to play' - oxymoronic.

Tomorrow, I'd like to play polo, but tornadoes aren't all around. Sounds like there are many teams already. If there is a secret throw in polo session, I'll go to that.

Who cares if it's fragmentary? London is big, and there doesn't seem to be a way around it, apart from benching people for the day and saying 'sorry, today you can't play polo, even if you want to' - and that's just plain mean.

  • I guess it relies on enough people also playing throw-ins at the same time, or on giving everyone enough advanced notice so that they can formulate a throw-in team? (With teams being given a time to play if lots of teams are keen?)

I suppose it does exclude people by it's very nature and that is lame, but that exclusion is going to happen regardless of whether the polo is above or below the radar and I thought there might be a way to improve the situation somehow?

  • In Lexington, we got a lot of 'that JonoMarshall character reckons there are 250 London players', so maybe there will be enough to support for both formats and leave no one behind?

  • In Lexington, we got a lot of

    oh dear... it's begun

  • It's called a list ;)

I thought there might be a way to improve the situation somehow?

  • hehe! i just wanted to somehow tie that one in... where did they get their wildly exaggerated stats from??

  • It's called a list ;)

    boo! shun!

I think the figure I quoted was 150.

  • I agree with H bomb. I think we might have said that to them...

  • I think the figure I quoted was 150.

Yeh, I was correcting people with '80 active, 150 including fairweather'. Obvs Jono wasn't hyperinflating numbers for kudos.

Well if say 6 teams sign up, and people feel that's too many, then we can split into two groups, we have enough courts.

I'm sure there will be throw-ins at Downs tomorrow, once the team games are done.
