  • Top of pedal to top of saddle is 96.5cm for both of them:

Tape measure shows that tip of saddle to front of the bars is an inch less on the CX.

I could of course move the saddle back!

  • what is the bar to saddle drop on each bike?

From top of saddle to top of the flat section of the bars, 9cm on the CX, 11cm on the 'Dale.

CX, 59cm from tip of saddle to front of stem faceplate, 62 on the Cannondale.

  • did you go lots of hills or something? It might not be the bike fit that caused the back pain.

  • Handlebar set higher usually bring them closer to you, wack on a longer stem and see how that feel.

    Yeah, 500k of them.

    No one listens. Le sigh.

  • so lots of exercise, no stretching

    yoga thread >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

  • I listened Hippy, will stretch in future.

  • Genetational pinocchiotomy does not count.

  • Changes in mileage and/or intensity, like say, adding a bunch of hills to festive 500 riding will cause problems for most people. My back was sore after the first 200. I've been a bit lax stretching recently too. Plus, that's about double my current normal distance. Again, 10% rule, stretch, rest days are important.

  • @ Hippy from WW guy - Still using it and still happy with it. the Biomac shoes are pretty thin though in winter :-)

  • Hehe cool, thanks for that. I'm going to give my drilled £30 Shimanos a go and if it's something I get on with I'll probably get some of those custom jobs from Goetz or maybe see if Bont will help out a fellow Aussie..

  • There's also that US company that does custom drillings. Rocket 7 I think???

Legstrong uses them and re-brands as Nike. <True story

  • Hello.

My G/f has a brompton and is complaining of back pain. COuld that be from a too high seat? or too low? It is the T bar version.

    Any ideas?

I was looking into custom options a while ago and I have a feeling they went out of business. I could be totally wrong though.

There's also a US company called D2 as well as Bont and RBC in Oz.

  • Has anyone had a bike fit from Pretorius? You seem to get quite a lot of different types of analysis for the money, but not sure how experienced they are, and at these prices I can only afford one shot at getting the fit right...

  • Not had a bike fit with them, but bought a bike from them and was impressed not just with their knowledge and experience, but their willingess to listen to what you say and be challenged on their assumptions.

  • Cool, that's encouraging. I don't think any of my bikes fit remotely well enough to bother trying to fix, so I'm mainly looking to get measured from scratch so I can use the data to find a frame that's optimal from the start. Will go along and have a chat to them, cheers.

  • What Andy said. I am not a customer but have been out on the ride a few times with Jean-Claude and Eryn. JC is a former pro rider and Eryn has loads of experience in bike fitting. Both are very friendly and come across as genuinely good people.

  • Does anyone know the common causes for pain above knees when riding. particularly when riding hard, climbing hills or against a headwind?

    Overgeared?

  • Thanks dude. interesting read
since upgrading my bike ive had some beef with pain above knees and more recently lower back. considering bike fit but jury is still out for me.

  • Do you cover your knees when riding in cold weather?

  • My lower back is very sensitive to saddle height- slightly too high (so my hips start to rock left/right when pedalling ever so slightly) and if I do 30+ miles I'll have real issues standing up straight when i get off the bike.

The knee thing sounds like too big a gear- any idea what sort of cadence you are averaging?

  • I've found that saddle too high = back of knee pain, saddle too low = front of knee pain.
