It's hard to tell whether an aero position is fast from just a photo, but it's easy to tell if it's slow. Then again, Mork's position doesn't look that fast, but he's one of the most aero people out there.

Debating the club 10 tonight but tired legs and the heat seems to want me to hide in the shade somewhere

Mork?

It does make you wonder what an aero position would be for him. :)

Mark Jones, races for Drag2Zero.

Talking of position are there any guides I can use to start again with my position from the ground up?

For biomechanics or aero?
Former, bike fitter. Latter, aero testing.
Aero doesn't always make sense so it's hard to document. Cleaner generally = faster. Less = faster. But then you do things like go too low and you lose too much power for the aero benefit. Hence testing. Very iterative process. TriRig have a lot of useful articles. Aeroweenies site?

Tops' book is very good. Easiest thing to reduce is frontal area, so spend some time in front of a mirror. Then do proper aero testing with power meter.

Teadrop shape.
Look at people who are known as aero that are of similar size to you and see how they look.

i don't want to be harsh but surely trimming a few pounds would be more beneficial than wearing an aero helmet?
-
• #7161
How much weight can you lose in the 5 seconds it takes to put on an aero helmet?

:)
Pretty sure I saw pics of people waving to the papz in the Newbury RC 12h too.

Interestingly, it's possible that the improvement in Cd.A from trimming your bulk actually makes more difference on typical domestic TT courses than the change in mass.

Not waving, drowning.

how does one of these affect aerodynamics?
i think it said that it was a 500g energy bar or something.
utterly rediculous if you ask me, but what do i know...

Specialized Win Tunnel did some tests of taping your lunch to the tubes, apparently it's pretty bad

Biomechanics then aero.
Think I'm going to book in for a retul fit, there's a place near me that have most of the different retul badges, and hopefully I've still got enough time to benefit from it - I can't make it any worse!

How much is reutal?
-
• #7169
£150.
-
• #7170
Ah lower end okay. Personally I've heard mixed things about reutal.
If I were using reutal I'd only go somewhere with a very good fitter using the system. As it's very easy to get reutal trained and certified.

Go see Scherrit.
-
• #7172
Retul is just a system for measuring. It doesn't make the operator a bike fitter.
-
• #7173
£310 for a tt bike fit, seems like a lot of cash....
-
• #7174
If it works, it's money well spent.

What distances are you riding and why do you feel you need a biomechanical fit?
lol very helpful
