  • I've tried both, and done pretty much the same time with full aero (tri bars, disc, H3) as I've done on drops with some very non-aero wheels. Given the low speed and the fact that the ergonomics of a full aero position can constrain you from achieving the necessary cadence, it seem that the MG event is a great leveller in the equipment arms race.

  • Would you like me to correct the forum BAR table, or will you do it?

    Knock yourself out.

  • Anyone have a proper course map for the R12/95 12 hour course in Wales?

  • A friend of mine is in hospital having been hit from behind yesterday while doing a 25 mile TT. She has a broken pelvis and cracked vertebrae. She is lucky to be alive.

  • :(

  • ouch. hope she's on the mend... dare I ask what has happened to the generous soul that inflicted this upon her?

  • Shit, that's horrible. Are they going to be ok with those injuries - sounds pretty damn serious?
    What happened to driver?

  • Not heard any more. She is in hospital and apparently will be ok. She was riding at 25 mph. The car was going at 50 mph.

  • Using the following results from HCC234, work out what I would have done if I'd been there :-)

I really like that course. Only did it once a couple of years ago on a 53:16 singlespeed road bike on the drops ie no aero kit. Did a 25:09 I think but it was the first race of the season so the form was far from polished.

My wee brother (Martin Cairns) tops the RCC list you linked to on his geared tt bike btw. Go bro!

  • In other news, Dr Hutch has lowered his own 10 mile comp record to 17:45. He currently holds 10, 30 and 50 records, but has never held the blue riband 25 record, a fact which will be trotted out as long as there are traditional testers:

"Ay, that Hutch was all right with his 20+ National Championship wins, but he never held the 25 record, did he?"

  • Sounded nasty. Please pass on my best wishes, Clive.

  • TTForum thread about it here

    Thanks.

In a sad sort of way it is comforting to know that testers can bring helmet debates into anything, just like us.

  • Apparently she had a "moon light" on. Should have been visible to anyone but the most negligent driver. She is emailing and tweeting under the influence of morphine from her hospital bed. Sadly she is talking about giving up cycling. I do hope this doesn't happen as she is a great cyclist and a delight to ride with.

  • Anyone have a proper course map for the R12/95 12 hour course in Wales?

Were you out training for this on the Amersham Rd this afternoon?

  • Knock yourself out.

Is that the only 25 you've completed this year?

  • In other news, Dr Hutch has lowered his own 10 mile comp record to 17:45.

I was looking at this CW article from last year which showed Wiggins & Hutchinson's Avg power output for a 10 mile TT.

    http://www.cyclingweekly.co.uk/news/latest/511921/wiggins-and-hutchinson-in-10-mile-tt-showdown.html

Any idea what kind of figures a regular human being would be able to sustain for this distance?

Average power output for a ‘10'
    **
    Wiggins - **460W

    **Hutchinson - **440W+

  • Any idea what kind of figures a regular human being would be able to sustain for this distance?

Wiggo and Dr Hutch are regular human beings. 6W/kg is achievable without cheating if you put in enough of the right training. You can get under 24:00 for 10 miles (which hundreds of people did over the weekend) with less than half that.

  • I did a 10 mile test tonight- first time back out on the bike since my month sitting on the sofa.

Averaged 266 watts for those 10 miles- roughly 20 down on my pre-sofa 10 mile power.

Took me just about bang on 26 minutes at 23 mph.

    In other words, I'm rubbish.

  • ^^ Thanks, I'm getting increasingly curious as to just how puny I really am.

  • Were you out training for this on the Amersham Rd this afternoon?

The A413? I was on it Sat and Sunday. 'Training' might be a stretch. Struggling more accurate.

  • Is that the only 25 you've completed this year?

    Yep.

  • Apart from a few 24s, i.e. incomplete 25s.

  • To add 2 mph to my average speed it looks like I need another 34 watts, from looking at todays attempt.

    Does that sound about right?
