  • Just got back from my first 10m TT... did 27.37

Just done my second 10m TT (same course) and did 24.47. Seems the new wheels, cranks and lower position made all the difference!

  • Did 25.41 tonight, which is a pb, but different course so doesn't really mean anything. Need to work on my pacing, the third quarter felt like I had a parachute behind me.

  • The first mile after the turn is always grim, I was doing about 27mph along the Floral Mile going out and about 23mph coming back even thought the weather chart seems to show that the wind was behind us there.

  • Hippy have you ridden the R100/1 before? I only did the R100/8 last year and by the looks of the results for each, this course is a good 15-20 minutes slower?

    I've been studying http://app.strava.com/rides/11232364#

  • Nope. Never ridden a TT in Wales. I'm not too bothered if it's a slow course, I'd just like to do a 100 where nothing much goes seriously wrong.

  • I cannot leave work until half five sadly, will try to make it out to the Bexley 10 tonight.

If I don't make it on time at least I can say hello to people.

Can someone recommend the fastest route to safely cycle out there?

Also, whilst I'm asking for stuff- I have no helmet, can someone lend me one (I take a medium Specialised) for the event, as I presume a lid is mandatory?

(I did the crash replacement thing in Condor yesterday, but they had to order the replacement in).

  • Lids aren't mandatory.

When I've ridden out starting at 5:45pm in Victoria I just about made it to sign on, and although I was trying not to go fill pelt I wasn't exactly hanging around either.

I go A2, A20, then up through Eltham on the A210 before throwing a right at the top of the town onto the A211 Footscray Road. Go through Sidcup then take the B2173 to Swanley. Go round the Swanley one way system and out the other side still on the B2173. At the M25/M20 roundabout junction take the A20, drop down the hill, then enjoy the slog (if on fixed) up Death Hill to the sign on and start area about 1/3rd of a mile before the main entrance to Brands Hatch.

Only time it's a little bit hairy is just before you reach Eltham, it's 3 lanes and you need to do a 2 o'clock right at a roundabout. But just follow the signs and it's a breeze.

  • Couple of spelling mistakes but I'm on my phone and CBA to edit.

  • Hmm, I'll be leaving the office at ~5.40, but not on the bike- that's at LMNH.

Estimate that I'll leave there at 6.

I think I may end up spectating.

  • I'm in the same boat. Is there a train from Victoria that would get me part of the way?

  • i've been meaning to find out about TT course number codes for years and just looked it up. I read through a fair bit of the CTT website which is delightfully outdated, here is some of my favorite advise which i thought might be of use to you all;

"(cycling) shorts do tend to ride down so it is worth purchasing a pair of clip on braces to hold them up"

"(climbing) out of the saddle with the hands on the brake hoods... is known as ‘honking’"

I love the CCT and all it's volunteers but sometimes you have to laugh :-)

  • I'm in the same boat. Is there a train from Victoria that would get me part of the way?

Would you be allowed to put a bike on a train at rush hour?

  • No.

  • Hmm - wasn't thinking clearly. Guess I will try and roll out.

  • Leaving Victoria at 5:45pm got me to the sign on at 7:06pm. It's forecast for a (half) decent evening, so will be busy.

  • @Dammit, @TV I can sign you on if you like. With the weather like today there will probably be +30 riders meaning you have an extra 30 min to get there.

  • PM me your full name, club name, address and phone number.

  • ^ grooming

  • Dammit what time are you heading out? I will be leaving Bexleyheath around 6pm
I could pick you up in the car
    I'll pm my mobile number

  • Two questions about this photo:

    1. Is Evans not very aero, or is that just me?
    2. Wrists below elbows?
  • Wiggins looks pretty much perfect imo. Evans is quite upright and illegal

Evans also looks like a dog having a shit.

  • That was fun, big thank you to Hyperbole and Fixedwheelnut.

I was very slow, but happy to have taken part.

I can start chipping away at that time (26.40) next week.

  • Was excellent seeing so many familiar faces out there tonight. Lack of wind and out on the nice bike, everything felt good.

  • Great rides by Tom and Sam, both PB's weren't they?

    I managed 24:36 on 97" fixed http://app.strava.com/rides/11896137

Incidently av speed 24.4mph max 38.7mph not 572km/h as it says on Strava

  • Mine was, yup. Absolutely knackered by the time I went past the start, forgot there wasn't another drop to get some free speed from but did enough. The 'Easy for the first two miles' advice from upthread paid off, but did feel like cheating at the time.

(hit my self-imposed 'time to get serious' threshold, so it's pointy helmet and fitting some aero bars from here on in. maybe.)
