The chap at the finish didn't get my time so he needs to work it out, a quick calc in his head had me down at 24.57 but Strava has me at 24.48 which fits a bit better with my average speed. Anyways a PB on my second time out so happy days.
For the record borrowing a pair of tatty old overshoes gained me ~30seconds... it was the shoecovers, honest.

colour co-ordination shaved some seconds too, honest. you should have used my pointy helmet for a few more...
-
• #2879
Yep, PB for me with a 24.01. Well pleased with that.
Neil, I clocked you at the start but as I was due to start I couldn't really say hello. I also couldn't hang around at the finish as I had to get home a bit lively. The wonders of two kids!

Yeah totally, if any other colour than black red or yellow goes on my bike it goes slower!

Nice to meet you Dammit and good to see others.
Sub 24 Tom? -
• #2883
Yup, by a fair chunk. 23:44. 22 seconds under previous PB. Should have worn the pointy helmet instead of the normal one, blatantly would have got me to 23:30... How did you fare? Apart from being a ridiculously sticky evening the lack of wind meant it all felt rather quick.

• #2884
Also, pre-empting T-V's appearance on the thread - on strava you say it was more satisfying than a crit; what exactly do you mean? curious, as a non-critter.
-
• #2885
Just in time Tom.
It struck me that riding for your own time and at the limit of your ability is a lot more fun than riding in a criterium where, unless you are really competitive, you are just making up the numbers.
In a crit you might sit in and not really push yourself for half of it, have people cutting you up and slamming the brakes on, and find yourself out of position and sprinting for places 10-15.
Or at least that is my experience.

• #2886
^sounds as I had imagined it, thank you.
-
• #2887
Caveat is that you would probably be competitive, and I imagine it is a lot more fun if you can influence the race.
-
• #2888
Just putting this here to remind you all, those decent 10 times need longer rides to complement them

And I need to start doing them on fixed ;)

Good result!
Not so good for me today - 24.49. Really bad cramps after the roundabout in my left calf but whatever. Happy to feel reasonably fit after been off the bike for a while. -

Crits require "race craft" not only fitness and that's what makes it more interesting for some. You can be half as fit as your oponent and still win the race. TTs are more rewarding because others can't fuck with you result.
You will never know untill you try. -
• #2892
Those looking to mix race craft and the purity of effort should try cyclocross, as it requires both.

Is anyone a member of timetrialling forum and could post an advert for me?
I don't really want to be one of those 'oh hey, I just came here to sell shit' people. But its not selling here and would clearly be better on a different forum.
-
• #2894
This is a large part of my reason to pack in the track and try TTing - the fact that only I can push to get a better time (or not!), and like you say nobody can influence your result apart from you.
I'm 2 TT's in and i'm really enjoying it!

Wiggins looks pretty much perfect imo. Evans is quite upright and illegal
Evans also looks like a dog having a shit.Looks mean fuck all when you have wind tunnel time.
Wiggins looks like a pursuiter, Evans looks like a mountain biker. Unsurprisingly.
