  • These guys might still do SRM: http://www.trainsharpcyclecoaching.co.uk

  • Can you two just fuck already. The sexual energy is strangling me.

    Pass the butter.

  • Try eBay.de for SRM- they sometimes have them for much less than the UK ebay site.

  • what about butter?

  • or get a tandem

Generally, I approve of white socks, but I think they are inappropriate for occasions like this.

  • Looking at their calendar, it's listed as an old school event. Will I still be able to ride with aerobars?

That will be their club's old school championship. Guests need not concern themselves with this.

  • I'm not going to post my report on the Hounslow Midsummer 25 because I don't think it has enough general interest. However I have extracted the following paragraph relating to the new vets' standard table. I believe there are some people on here old enough to have a point of view on this subject, and I'd be interested to hear what they have to say.

"The vets’ standard result once more pointed up the failings of the new vets’ standard table with the vets’ result being identical to the scratch result. Nic’s plus was 7 minutes 06 seconds, Rob’s was 4.36. Under the old system the score would be Rob: plus 11.30, Nic 7.37. Similarly in our 100 Adam Topham won both the scratch and the vets’ prizes; with results like these it is hard to see any point in vets’ standards under the new arrangement."

Q: what are records for tandem TT over various distances / durations?

    101 Euro right now.

    Cons- it's wired.

Pros- I reckon it'll go for less than £500, and you'll be able to sell it for that when you are done experimenting.

I've had a few checks over there. They tend not to want to post international. Must be something about the war..

Willesden CC has their records here:

Hmm.. that one didn't even appear when I looked. Only posts to Germany though. Worth asking?

Is it time to play 'spot hippy' yet?

  • Good luck. I wasn't there.

I would, and if the chap says no then ask one of the forum members who live in Germany to forward it.

I know a couple of chaps who work in Germany, also.

  • Q: what are records for tandem TT over various distances / durations?

    10 17:21 McCulloch & Bradley 2008
    25 43:39 Hutchinson & Yates 2006
    50 1:33:24 Carr & Taylor 2003
    100 3:18:24 Carr & Taylor 2003
    etc.

The 12h and 24h records are slower than the solo records. There are also women's and mixed records, and the same all over again for the long barrow.

The new table is right(ish), the old one was appallingly biased in favour of the elderly. If every vet in a race matches their respective age group record, the result on standard will be very close, all around the +18:00 area in a 25 from ages 40 to 80. Some old blokes have thrown their toys out of the pram because they no longer get prizes just for being ancient, but when there is a strong cohort of 40-somethings who are routinely at the top of the scratch table against all-comers, it shouldn't be surprising that they are also walking off with the vets prizes. The old fundamental flaw in vets standard calculations is unchanged (it should be done by division, not subtraction), and that still means that tougher courses and conditions shift the result in favour of the younger riders, simply because going 10% slower adds less time to a 40y.o. doing a 1:00:00 than it does to an 80y.o. doing a 1:12:00. I think the starting point of 1:6:00 is unrealistic, and the calculation method is mathematically abhorrent, but when it comes to VTTA National championships, the prizes still end up spread around the ages and genders, as the designers of the new table intended. I think they avoided changing to a rational starting point and a calculation method which didn't offend against decency because the new table was already scary enough, and they wanted it passed by the members; too much rationalisation all at once, however well founded, might have been a bridge too far.

seeing as i have a tandem trike there's hope yet for the new love-birds to satisfy at least two cravings..

  • I was thinking of giving my tandem a hammering over a ten at some stage; stoker seems willing too.

  • A TT question...and sorry if there is another thread for this sort of thing, just wondering if anyone else has experienced the same thing.

When i ride short TT s and am going full bore and stay on the tri bars, after about 7 miles i get a loss of feeling in the legs starting in the toes. This seems to be lack of blood as if i get out of the saddle or ride on the tops i feel the blood washing back. Ive tried lots of different saddles and positions and its slightly worse on the lo pro as opposed to a road bike with clip ons. there is restricted blood flow somewhere but i dont think it is in the groin, someone did tell me there are some big arteries around the hip bones, maybe there?

Ive never had this problem on the track, probably the races are too short and never in road races where i guess im in and out of the saddle and the pace is always changing.

Its frustrating having to sit up and have someone youve caught come back past you. Im coming back to a bit of local racing after about 10 years off. Previously i did mostly road and track and didnt bother with TT s much although i can remember it happening a little but its much worse now.
    any ideas?

  • Thanks Tiswas,
The numb toes is just the warning and isnt shoe related, if i dont sit up or back off the leg muscles fade and i lose all feeling in my legs. I was thinking blood because if i sit up or stand up i get like a warm wash feeling and feeling comes back. The nerve bundles idea is interesting though. Ill probably have to find a decent sports physio.

  • I have recently started having this issue on my road bike, but interestingly not my tri-bike...

  • Thanks Hippy,
Some pointers towards "external Iliac artery endofibrosis" which seems to describe my symptoms well and apparently is reasonably common in cyclists. Better see the doctor or just stick to a bit of track and the odd sportive, dont fancy surgery much apparently a Barloworld rider died after post surgery complications to correct this.
