  • What are you saying, mikec? That people should have tried harder to go to work?

  • Who here has a job that is actually important and worth going to?

I mean, I deliver flowers for slightly more than min wage, I'm not a rocket surgeon. My job isn't that important and work is overrated. I've taken the last two days off to make nice food, watch films with friends, play in the snow and finnish my alien painting. This was alot more important than the hundred quid I lost out on by not being miserable in the cold.

So, in essence I have HTFU so that my life can be more fun.

  • Yes Nhatt that's the fucking deal. Bang on it. We're not saving lives, most of us.

  • It's not skiving - it's snow-therapy.

  • It was physically impossible for me to get to work yesterday, central line was practically shut down, buses weren't running, my car was in for a service, and there was no way I was cycling at 5mph for 9 miles lol, so I got told not to bother coming in, however businessas usual today :)

  • I walked into work so I could check this forum, now that's dedication

  • Half the fun is making the effort in getting in to work, our office was dead yesterday and half dead today, but those that are in are dressed like Shackleton (had Gap and Diesel sponsored him)
I was one woman walking along the path on the Uxbridge road with Ski poles and enormous ice boots.. it had been gritted for 2 days!

  • Yeah. People need to harden up a bit. 3/4 of our team were skiving off. I didn't die in the war for this kind of shit

I've got friends who died face down in the mud...

Eh? So how did those of us who did cycle in get there?

I think you mean you couldn't be arsed to get in.

Most of my team got in, though barely anyone else bothered. One girl, clearly pissed off with getting in when no-one else in her dept was, moaned about what a terrible, difficult journey it had been and how she would have to set off soon to get back safely. She came in from fucking Clapham, on the normally running Northern Line, FFS.

  • Ha!

    Noted.

Oh. Reaaalllly. You planning on starting a "List of People provenrad needs to Slap" thread? Like Object?

    :P

  • chris, you may have left london, but you live on in our media establishments.
I can't believe you posted that before I had chance.

Why does it bother you that people want to skive at any given opportunity? Do you work in A&E?

  • It was funny yesterday, I was walking around most of the day with a friend on the commons around where I live and we loved it, took lots of pictures, admired the snowmen, the dogs going mental. It was just great.

And then she said "you will see tomorrow they're going to tell us that £xbn were lost today because of the snow". And that is an aspect of the UK I really dislike, the gloomy media. Such a shame because I find British people really caring and amazing when things are tough. They also have a great sense of fun.
yeah, like the uk can afford to loose more £££'s

  • I can't believe you posted that before I had chance.

is it just me or does she look a bit like chris?

  • @Dogsballs: Why does it matter, then, if we all relax and have a nice monday? We're in the shit, what does it matter? Economic activity does not make life worth living.

BTW: Loose means not tight, Lose to means to mislay.

    With Love,
    Gramps.

  • What are you saying, mikec? That people should have tried harder to go to work?

Not really saying anything in any seriousness as usual. I looked out my window yesterday morning and thought, wow how beautiful, it will be a real challenge to get to work on my bike without coming off, and it was! Coming through Highgate in the blizzard conditions was just great.

  • Eh? So how did those of us who did cycle in get there?

I think you mean you couldn't be arsed to get in.

I live just out side of East London in the East/South-East suburbs, there was several more inches of snow than within London, and I got told not to bother before I even contemplated leaving, but yeah you're right....I couldn't be arsed either :p

  • I can't believe you posted that before I had chance.

    hahaha

    Physical impossibility fail.

  • yeah, like the uk can afford to loose more £££'s

Well, it occurred to me that at a time of recession when there is apparently less work going round, a mass day off could almost be helpful because a lot of people who didn't go in to work will not have been paid and will not have cost their company anything. When you consider that a lot of car manufacturers at the moment are paying people reduced wages simply to stay at home, and a lot of businesses are working three or four day weeks, a day off might help to use up some of that slack.

Also, we all know that a very large portion of the working day for most people is spent pissing about doing nothing. If people take a day or two off then what will happen? They'll work harder for a day or two afterwards to do the things they didn't get done on their days off, and by next week everything will be back to normal. I don't think this is any big deal.

  • I was one woman walking along the path on the Uxbridge road

I suspected as much.. no man would keep their curls that perfect.. :P

  • chris, you may have left london, but you live on in our media establishments.

    speechless

  • wow i hadn't read that before. Georgie looks great in the picture, sorry Chris.

  • is it just me or does she look a bit like chris?
Jesus, that's cuntish to the point I'm suprised that I didn't say it.

  • speechless
