The only snow day I've ever had before was when we couldn't physically open my mom's car door to get to school for the snow packed up against the it.

Not that I don't love a snow day! They do make people unusually friendly.

  • 'Ello Chris. It's different riding in NYC, although I seem to remember that the first snows of the year last year involved alot of cyclists walking.

BTW, take care of John for me. he seems to think he's coming back here, but I know better.

Yea, I just heard that you have John now, I am filled with mixed emotions but also excited that one more person can send me cheap levis.

  • Fuck it, I love the chaos, I can't stand routine, we so rarely get extreme weather conditions we love a bit of it.

  • It was funny yesterday, I was walking around most of the day with a friend on the commons around where I live and we loved it, took lots of pictures, admired the snowmen, the dogs going mental. It was just great.

And then she said "you will see tomorrow they're going to tell us that £xbn were lost today because of the snow". And that is an aspect of the UK I really dislike, the gloomy media. Such a shame because I find British people really caring and amazing when things are tough. They also have a great sense of fun.

  • Vee you got it. We are happy in spite of what the media tells us to be. The moral majority are actually pretty loose moral hedonists, and those in 'control' are sadistic petty small-minded snivelling party poopers, such as most TV news journalists. It was so cringeworthy watching them try to make 'fun' little packages on their news programmes amongst all the blame and doom. They just don't get it when all of us, in some psychic phenomenon, wake up one monday, see the snow and say 'fuck it, I'm not even going to call work to tell them I'm not coming in.'

    Wonderful.

  • At least they were taking backups.. that's more than I can say for some companies I've worked with.

Everywhere I have worked (and work for) talked of backups. But then either failed to implement any, or did so in an utterly useless way.

The biggest backup failure was a certain government department who "accidentally" deleted 6 months worth of work, and then found that they hadn't actually taken a backup for 4 months and even that was incomplete. Sum result? A several million pound loss of work and what ended up as a 6-month delay in a major programme. It was shocking, and yet they were so nonchalant about it. Backup fail.

Backup is not even a hard thing to do, there's really no excuse.

  • Data is annoying. I LIKE it when I lose stuff.

  • I've never witnessed any fails of that nature. Nothing has gone wrong in these "no backup" zones.. but it will.. :)

I like when I lose weight.
I don't like when I have to repeat work.

  • HTFU UK rail services, you fucking bastards, I have meetings to get to yet it will take me 2 and a half hours to travel from Brighton to Portsmouth.

    Cunts

  • I'm looking forward to losing these

    Not that long is it?

    You losing your balls?

When did you decide to become a woman?

  • I like when I lose weight.

For some reason I like repeating work. I think because I do it better the second time around, the first time ends up being practice. But if you're paid by the job rather than the hour, I can imagine this wouldn't be so. I'm paid for my time, not my output. And I like it when machines die or fuck up. Gives me an excuse to go and get pissed/stoned/fatter whilst IT people have to try and sort stuff out. Work is a joke. You gotta keep laughing.

watching Krishnan on Channel 4 News last night try his hardest to make everyone feel stupid and lazy for not being in work or sorting things out was just embarrasing. If this does happen every 18 years or so why not f**king enjoy it, who knows when we'll see it again?!

Still at least they weren't going on about the credit crunch...

  • hippy. Most IT professionals are very good. One or two are not but it only takes one or two to create a momumental foul up.

HarryMajor. Sadly people who take the attitude that they can take an extra day off are often the people who find themselves with plenty of spare time on their hands. We are in a recession. Job losses are happening. More will happen. Getting another job is going to be very difficult. If you want to keep your job, show that you are willing to make an effort. Get noticed making an effort. Then when the choice comes down to you or the other guy, you may still be working this time next year.

  • Not that long is it?

nope usually only takes an hour, or I would drive but this week my car has decided that the starter motor is not important anymore so is ignoring it.

  • Chris Stop throwing scraps to barking dogs, you know better than that.

  • The fact you have a Citrix server is a failure on its own. :P

    Ha!

I get paid by the hour too.. so I can see the benefit. But I've got too much to do so I don't want to repeat stuff if I can help it. Just seems like a waste of time which annoys the piss out of me. I'd rather do it once and then spend the free time posting shit on this silly forum.. or repairing coffee machines :)

I'm an IT professional.. I was just taking that opportunity to give myself shit :)

  • Yeah. People need to harden up a bit. 3/4 of our team were skiving off. I didn't die in the war for this kind of shit

  • Ha!

    Noted.

The fact you have a Citrix server is a failure on its own. :P

    Wide load.

Not entirely true, my boss is a fucktard and does not like being questioned (about anything), he is always right, he and the directors/owners can not see that the only way to see the end of this recession is toget rid of the dead wood. They employed 8 people in 08 which lessened my work load, I now have time to post on here.

I am currently on a 3 day week, and as a result am actively seeking employment else where (bank manager is getting very annoyed) along with several of my colleagues. If we are all succesful the company will be right up shit creek.

I feel that the company would be quite happy to get rid of me and keep the newer staff (despite the fact that they can't actually do my job) because they are too dumb to question anything. They are a bunch of yes men and arse lickers. I wish them all luck (but only after I have some first).

Oh, we had no snow so I was at work yesterday.
