  • I cannot fucking stand Joni Mitchell.

  • when it comes to music i'll be as venomous as i think it deserves.

anyone who thinks otherwise should read The Fountainhead.

its perfectly matched to this situation

Is the book much different from the film? It's just that I've never read it, as I considered the film of it one of the most risible and stupid that I've ever seen. I'd follow your recommendation if you thought that there was something to be gained from it over the film--films of books are often very distorted.

  • exactly everyone dose, but there is a difference between 'your wrong and i'll tell you why' and 'i'm gonna have to disagree with you because...' thats something i don't think you know the difference between.

and from how i and probably many others viewed it, all your posts in this thread where knee-jerk

Fair point; replace all my "you're wrong" with "i disagree because"

and my points are still valid. none of of which were knee-jerk.

    i've not seen the film.

as for the book / Rand......its great although extreme. Same goes with Atlas Shrugged.....the methods of her ideals are, i think, revolutionary. she's challenging to fuck. She's often quite hard to understand and she can make you feel quite uncomfortable. and her personal view of human interaction is pretty crazy.....but the way its put in both books is exceptional. It's as relevant today as it was then. in fact, more so.

more. make sure next time your thinking to wade into an interent argument/discussion you word it properly to begin with not just swing your internet penis about.

yes your points are valid, but they seem knee jerk, but that's where we will have to agree to disagree.

  • Of course i do, doesn't everyone? And if someone disagrees with me, fair enough. I'd like to have a conversation about it. But i don't want to give my all/reasoning/experience/understanding and the counter argument go along the lines of "no, you're a dick".

Scum-cunt was harsh, agreed.....that was my only knee-jerk thought so far.
hold on, do you just write the first thing that comes to your mind and then not reflect when someone calls you a dick for it? you have to have it explained in a meaningful conversation as to why they called you a dick when it's pointed out to you. i thought only children did this.

anyway, this is tedious now and on the wrong thread. as the title states 'rest in peace', not 'shit on the deceased career beacause you have an opinion'. next time use the rant thread for your knee-jerk comments.

  • you have to have it explained in a meaningful conversation

    because i'm an adult.

i don't get upset when someone has something to say. i do however, get pissed off by insults, because, from where i stand, its an under confidence caused by a deeper challenge.

    but thats my opinion.

  • Mixing up a critical assessment of their work with a reaction to their death is a pretty pointless thing to do, too.

I think you're wrong. For the majority of us with no personal connection to the Winehouse family, her death is a loss only insofar as it precludes any future work. The magnitude of the loss to the wider world is then, of necessity, guaged from the likelihood than any future works would have been a benefit to the wider world, and speculation about the future works is based largely on a critical analysis of the existing oeuvre.

For this reason, it is a pretty standard part of any obituary to assess the achievements of the subject before their demise and to ponder on whether their life's work was complete or whether, by living longer, they might have made further contributions in whatever field of endeavour they had either already been engaged or were likely to turn to in later life.

  • well done

  • never stir another mans porridge.

even if it has Valencia honey?!?

  • all this, she was the most talented singer/composer to come out of england for bloody ages, regardless of taste. more soul than anyone else in her big toe.
a very sad loss for real/heartfelt/ballsout soul
yes, she had some problems, who doesn't?

Bang on! Most of the top 100 is full of gaut.

  • There's not much to say about either story:

Somalia is a failed state, and desperately needs aid and guidance from the developed world. One can only hope that these problems are addressed soon by the relevant political leaders.

Not the place, I know, but surely the African league have to start taking some responsibility. What's the point of me giving money for food and wells only for it to end up in Halliburton share holder's pockets and some more rounds of ammo?

  • i wish i knew about surfing.

I'd start with upper case letter use and punctuation if I was you.
Honestly, you will look back on when you were like this and wince. Nothing to do with your opinions on the deceased. It's just the way you write, it's embarrassing to read.
There really is no point spewing forth stream of consciousness student bunkum if you can't get the basics correct. No point at all.

It's like ruining a nice frame with an arrospok AND ignoring it's need for a tyre. Oh no, you didn't did you ?

  • I have read it, twice.
    you are still a cock

What made you read it the second time? Couldn't believe how tedious, self-regarding and overblown it was and had to double-check?

I could be as rude as you like about Ayn Rand, but she's been dead long enough for it not to shock anybody but the dumbest fan.

  • The RIP Thread.

    RIP.

  • Why is everyone so angry?

surely the question is why are people more upset by a dead crack head who sang a bit than any other drug addict dying?

  • i went to camden sq with my daughter this afternoon (on bikes naturally), some nice tributes.. plenty of flowers, candles, CDs, beer bottles and cigarettes placed on / around the square (the house still had police cordon). also radio and tv crews among the crowd. Amy was a neighbour of my mum's. i used to see her often around camden, can't claim to know her, but she had a beautiful voice and no one can doubt her talent. hawley arms (her local) and roundhouse have tributes also.. RIP Amy xx

you're pretty right, I had a 20 year gap between reading the first time to the second time. :p

  • is it safe to go back to camden yet?

  • never safe at weekends, wait til monday morning :P

  • I knew a person who died once

But do you know anyone who has died twice?

  • ^ Yes. And he's still alive

  • Why is everyone so angry?

They don't eat properly and then get all grumpy and stuff.
