  • haha I wouldn't go that far man. Dolan's are built really well though. I honestly don't know how anyone can slate them. I still fancy getting a track champion. Always fancied a mash too, but i've seen the same paint flickering probs on those too and I'm put off Cinelli now.

  • It's just paint, hardly going to affect how the frame ride.

  • yeah but you feel robbed when you spend a lot of money on something mate. if you bought a car that did the same how would you feel? and the seat pin thing is quite common I hear.

  • Oh but I did, on a custom frame with an expensive wet paint to ensure that it doesn't look thick around the lugs.

It got a handful of chips on it now, first couple of them on the top tube due to certain chemical from a tree that dissolve the paint, some came off because I didn't let it cure for a prolonged period of time (got a big ride a couple months after completion), and the usual wear and tear (chainstay, seatstay from lamp post etc.) but it's quite normal if you use the bicycle daily.

  • It was flickering off all the edging when building it. bb, head tube, drops, seat post. Its honestly really bad. I still think it might just be a botch job, but i've seen others the same. had a lot of frames and had nothing like it. I just think its ironic that i spent almost half on my dolan and its much better quality. we all know cinelli's arent worth the price tags and while they are lovely to ride, you shouldnt pay good money for something shoddy.

Sound like you got yourself a bad one, that doesn't sound normal at all.

Especially when the matt Dolan is best for chipped paint.

  • yeah I could have just been my luck.

A mate of mine had a pre cursa that chipped loads, but he did used to fling it about and not bother about it. Mine has been like a tank. couldn't praise it more, honestly.

Marc, any pictures of teh cinelli?

If the paints were flaking when you were building it up, it should have been send back under warranty and get a new one.

  • yeah I know, I just couldn't be bothered with the whole thing. Bad I know.

would have to strip it to see the main damage. For instance the majority of it around the head tube is luckily covered by the headset shells.

MASH paints seems to hold up pretty well as far as i've seen. Know a few people with them as dailys and work bikes and none look particularly ratty

  • i have a pre-cursa with the road forks, i am in need of some (hopefully full length) that will fit, its a 58cm if that makes any difference!

    ^what you want again darling?

  • haha shit, MUDGUARDS, mudguards is what i need advice on!

All Cinelli Gazzettas are like that. When we prep em at work we Can't face the bb or head tube as it totally fucks em Have to leave it to the customer to decide if they want to risk it. We've contacted Cinelli and they don't seem to give a shit as long as they look good when they leave the factory. Lots of other Cinellis are the same and a lot of De Rosas are also pretty bad. MASH paint varies. Histogram is better than the Bolt. Surly is the best. Their frames are really nice to prep.

  • italian paint

  • does anyone have a 54cm fxe for sale, preferably frame only?

  • So I've had a look through this thread. I've just bought a pre cursa frame and have a couple of questions about it. Those of you who are riding it on the road with a brake. Have your forks got 45mm rake? How does that affect handling? Is it ok? Thinking of getting Columbus Tusk Air forks to go with it. Any idea if these'd be appropriate? It'll mostly get used on the road and occasionally taken to Herne Hill.

I'll be stripping my old bike and sticking as many bits as possible from it onto the precursa, I've got stronglight 2000s at the mo', with the 107mm stronglight BB. Are these definitely not going to work or is it a case of sticking a spacer on the driveside or something? What cranks are people using, are there any others found to not work? Anyone got on-one external BB cranks for sale, if the stronglights definitely won't work?

    Cheers!

  • I ride a 103mm with a sugino messenger. Always been fine.

In terms of the forks, I never liked the lack of toe clearance with the alpina straight blades when I rode it brakeless. Not sure what rake the set I have on now are, but feels much more comfy in traffic

  • Me and my mate used some Stronglights on our Dolans, mine touched the chain stay if they were really on tight, when we fitted them to his we filed them down a bit and it just cleared the chain stay, still pretty close though.

    Sugino RD2's\messengers, not a problem!

  • Cheers chaps! Reckon I'll try it with the Stronglights and see how I get on. I seem to recall sticking a thin (1.5mm?) spacer on the driveside so the spider would clear the chainstay on my dedacciai. See if that'll do the trick for the Dolan. I'm guessing chainstays are the same length/size for all sizes of precursa?

  • Filing them down a bit doesn't do any harm

  • I'll bear that in mind. Preferable to buying new cranks...

  • Does the FXE have exactly the same geometry as the pre-cursa or is it adjusted? It looks the same on the Dolan website yet somehow every photo of the frames built up looks difference to any pre-cursa (is that the fork rake difference?)
