Yeah, hurt my chin and was shaken up. Just gotta make sure I wear my helmet now, could have come off a lot worse.

dolan experts: i'm 5 8", 31" inseam and i'm considering buying a 56. is this a terrible idea? i don't really have the option of getting on a giving it a go unfortunately so am looking for some guidance
-
• #1585
Isn't that a bit big?
-
• #1586
that's what i'm fearing. i'd usually go for a 54 but someone is selling one locally for a good price
-
• #1587
i'm 5 7" and the 52 fit me best, so probably too big
-
• #1588
thanks for the advice guys! probably saved me a lot of heartache a few months down the line once i'd built it up and discovered it didn't fit
-
• #1589
I reckon 52-53 would be ideal. I have a 55 and im 5"7/8 ish. It's alright and not annoying, but would prefer it a little smaller tbh.

I am 5 10 and 32 inside leg and a 54 fits me very well. All depends on arm/torso length but 56 could be a stretch on the top tube.

I'm the same as kerley

Dolan geometry is shit. So the 54 is more like a 55 and 56 is more like a 57. Look back at most of the pics and you'll realise how nearly everyone used dinky stems.

Partly because people use the Precursa as a HHSB, and it's an unwritten law that a HHS should have dinky stems for the jackhammer look.

The Dolan geometry is different to Specialized and Trek - I assume this applies to other manufacturers too. My Langster 2012 52cm is actually slightly shorter than the Dolan Precursa 50cm which is odd - making their 52cm more of a 54. I'm just glad I didn't buy a Precursa 52cm because I would have needed an inappropriately sized stem also. I now have a '50cm' with 90mm stem.
If you have another road bike or try one in a local bike shop then you can compare geometry between that and the Precursa - but you probably want one size down.

Size down

Compact geo vs traditional geo, different head and seat tube angles, high bbs on track bikes, the different ways manufacturers measure their bikes, what you want to use the bike for and a whole load of other variables mean you'd be crazy to think you should be one specific size on every bike. It's pretty easy to size up a Pre Cursa from the geo charts on their site.

Top tube lengths vary even between the Pre Cursa and Track Champion

Of all the frames I've had, my pre cursa cost me the least. I used it for a while when working as a messenger, its taken knocks and yet still looks great and has been really reliable. Ironically, the most expensive frame i've bought has been the biggest let down. My Gazzetta has been shocking. crap paint work that has flaked loads from building it to it even touching something and the seat pin provided was too long.
