Ordered the forks for my PC, gone for Columbus Tusk Air. Wasting some time at work reading about precursa builds and came across this one: http://thevoiceofthepeopleisthevoiceofadog.blogspot.co.uk/2013/02/dolan-pre-cursa-build-diary.html
Terrifyingly, the guy bought 1 1/8" to 1 1/4" tapered planet x exocet forks (full carbon) and when he realised his mistake, he sanded the steerer down to straight 1 1/8". Then he hammered a star nut into already compromised steerer! What a fucking mess.

Well, apparently £50 is how much the front section of his jaw costs.

That looks really stupid.

I was trying to work out what it looked like. -

I've been reading this thread over the past few days trying to work out what crank/BB to go for on the Pre Cursa. Anyone got any straightforward recommendations? I've been looking at the stronglight chainset, but going back through the thread I haven't been able to establish what BB I would need to stop the crank coming into contact with the chainstays. thanks

^ I put mine together with a 107mm BB and 1.5mm of spacers on the drive side. So, a 110mm would do it.

cheers! decent chain line?

Yeah, the 60cm frame was a bit small so ended up only using it once and then sticking all the bits back on my Dedacciai, but it seemed fine for that ride and is definitely the least you could get away with on that frame...

thanks for the info

I went for the Stronglight Track 2000 and matching BB. It works, but I would recommend getting something better. Those Stronglight track chainrings aren't very round.

I'm considering buying a FXE but I'm a little worried about not being able to make an aesthetically pleasing bike (the most important bit I know...) what with the long chain stays. Does anyone have one, and can they tell me if, when the wheel is slammed with a 28c tyre, is there still a massive gap between the tyre and seattube?
-
• #1645
Isn't thigh gap is very now?
-
• #1646
FXE, just buy the damn thing;

I spoke to someone at Dolan not long ago when I was considering a dedicated commuting bike. They said the max tyre with a guard was a 25. I think you can do that with the precursa. If so then there's not much point in going for the fxe if you want to run it fixed with a single brake. I guess the rear brake hole helps mount the 'guard.

• #1648
Precursa does have mudguard stay, only the fork doesn't have it.
-
• #1649
you wouldn't get a mud guard and a 25 on a pre cursa

with the axles far out in the drop out, you definitely can, just got to buy an audax fork instead of the standard road one.
Road fork on the FXE has more rake and it has longer chainstays.
