Headtube lugs, crown, drive side chainstay and dropouts. Just like an old Italian racer would. Looks like they'll be repainting it for me, as I said already they're very helpful and willing to do anything you ask.

Thank you for the comments! Olo my frame is 22". Ed I loved the BLB frames they looked great and I'm sure that anything that makes a person smile is a good thing!!! Aroogah coming to West's on Thursday...

well, I ended up ordering a 21.5" - hopefully that will be the correct fit. I couldnt decide between the 21" and the 21.5" -- I was concerned about the stand-over height due to the higher bb.
thanks

frankly, it's only a tiny logos on the top tube really, beside it's mostly the ride I'm interested in (and the fact it got lug, flat crownded fork, fluted seat stay... etc.).
beside maybe in a couple of year I'll send it off to get it repainted in a completely different paintscheme, says very 1970 italian world champion track style? (silver with world champion stripe on seatstay etc.).
plus it's coming in 3 weeks, and because it's a different design to the standard one, I assumed it's likely to take longer for a non-BLB one.
3 weeks? more like two months, where is it ed?

Hah, it's Bob Jackson after all, sometime it take 2 weeks, sometime 2 months! should be here this week or next.

I don't like my job, but I do get paid. So, every once in a while, I like to spend some of that cash to make feel me better. I like nice things.
Have been thinking of buying a Bob Jackson Vigorelli in British Racing Green with yellow transfers and lug lining (a bit like the Lotus 7 from The Prisoner), but there are some things that I don't know.
Not sure whether or not I want it threaded or threadless. I think I am forced to choose threaded as I feel it suits the frame better (and threadless could be considered blasphemy).
So, the questions:
A) The steerer will be cut and threaded from the factory?
B) Where to get the headsets? What options are there?I've checked out Mercian Super Vigorelli, too, but, I don't know, BJ seems, for some reason, more likable. I've understood Mercian has tighter angles, but I am not after a super pure, boards only, track machine.

Mercian will spec the super vigorelli to you. I.E. any angles, lengths you desire.

a) yes, but perhaps not as low as you may like. untouched from the shop, you'd need two or three spacers.
b) umm, you can purchase a headset at any bike shop...1" threaded or 1" threadless (1 1/8th threadless with a shim) depending on what you specify for the build. plenty of options.
threadless if you want stiffness and ease of changing bars and maintenance. threaded if you want the aesthetic. threaded is an inferior system, but a bob jackson or mercian would not look quite right with a threadless setup, in my opinion. 'look' is the only reason to chose threaded over threadless these days.

so will bj, they do custom frames too.

BJ will install any headset or BB you want for nothing. I just got a 105 headset from them for about £15 I think.

So they have a selection of BBs and headsets you are able to choose from? You pay them and they install them prior to shipping? It does sound convenient.

Yes, with a classic frame, I believe threaded is a must.
-
• #65
yeah man threaded - classic frame - just look at the one in bike porn dubbed "super vigorelli" in shiny blue - so sweeet!

Yes, they sold me a brand new 1" threaded campag record headset when I placed the order for the frame, then they cut the fork to size and greased and fitted the HS before delivery, for free.
Bob Jackson are a normal local bike shop as well as frame builder - they have shelves campag and nitto stuff, including some nice older bits stockpiled.

^and I had a BB put in by them too so I had the bike assembled about 20 minutes after the frame arrived.

• #68
Damn. I just sent them my inner leg measurement (34 inches, if I did it right). I feel compelled to order. My better half might want to kill me, but, then again, she has told me she loves me. Now to put that to a test!
-
• #69
Just to make sure: inner leg measurement -- from floor to crotch -- is from the pelvic bone, sort of, to the floor? Or should I measure it starting from my dangly bits? Not sure what "crotch" means, exactly. Not being a native speaker poses some problems...
-
• #70
The standard way to measure (my need help here) is to.....
stand with your back (and heels) against a wall, and push a book up between your legs (quite firmly ;) ). You then hold the book inplace against the wall and measure from the top of the book to the floor.

Gotcha. I believe I got it right, then.

of course, was just pointing out that the argument; mercian's have too tight a geometry, is pretty pointless.

I've understood that Mercian only does custom frames. If I were to take that road, would I need to fly over to get fitted? If so, that'd ramp up the price. Not that the end product would be anything else than fantastic, but I'm not sure I am ready for it. Yet, at least.
-
• #74
Well, you don't have to go and get fitted. If you can decide what kind of angles you want, and you know what seat tuber and top tube lengths are right for you, then just call then with the details. Might be an idea to go up though.
They do have their standard vigorelli specs, which have 74 degree seat and head tube angles. If you specify seat tube length, they will probably just build it square with the above angles... -
• #75
oh, and there standard bb height is 10 3/4 inches i think...
Whizz thanks a lot. That's really helpful.
You have chromed headtube lugs, crown and chainstay. Is that it? I'm after exactly that combo. not cheap mind.
