  • I quite like the layout on the bottle

  • i am not to embarrased to admit but i had a shandy yesterday
it was hot, i was thirsty, and just poured one at home no decent beers invoved no speciality lemonde but it tasted good
    1/2 san miguel export
    1/2 sprite
    something felt just right

  • cider shandy can be nice too
as can a lager cider mix ( without the blackcurrant )
all very refreshing on a hot day

You should never feel bad. I got a barrage of abuse at SE for ordering Shandy. I think it's great though. Turns an ale into something incredibly refreshing.

Shame you were not with us on Friday to add some logic to the festivities.

  • sorry bernie
i probably wouldn't have added any logic just a dash of lemonade to my guiness ? guiness shandy anyone ?!?
i know i should have been there
did all go well how many pubs did you get to ? the usuals ? any new ones ?
i was glued to the royal wedding ... gripping stuff ! ( not )

  • I was in copenhagen at the weekend.. I learnt a couple of things

Tuborg tastes like piss anywhere in the world
Kylie Kylie tilburg isn't too bad
    Carlsberg is ok over there
Ale 16 or something like that is pretty nice

  • carlsberg is terrible over here, it always tastes better elsewhere

    i miss tuborg

  • 2 bottles for £3 on Baltika in Camden Town Sainsbury's.
Quite nice for cheap lager, I nearly finished a bottle before I got home.
Funky ring-pull type thing as well, so that the street drinkers don't need to break their teeth.

+1. If I've just ridden to the top of the hill or similar on a warm day and I'm stopping for a well earned pint nothing beats shandy. 50/50, no lager top. The best bit is you're hydrating yourself while drinking, so you don't have to worry about dehydration*.

*this may not be true as lemonade is full of sugar. Oh well.

  • ^^ cheap lager? That's £1.50 a bottle. My next lager purchase is going to be 12 bottles of Efes from the Turkish Food Centre in Dalston, £8.99.

    Or 74p a bottle :)

"Radler" in Germany, named after cyclists. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shandy#Radler

    Gotta love those Germans.

From the same page: "In some parts of Australia, a Girl Shandy is simply a glass of Lemonade, while a Boy Shandy is simply a glass of beer." :)

How big are the bottles though?

500ml Tyskie, Lech, Zywiec, Okocim are usually ~£1 here. #win

  • Anybody else like MacKeson Stout?

Very dark, chocolately, malty, quite sweet (due to lactose), not hoppy at all. Great in beef stews and pies.

  • Innis & Gunn on draught/tap news.

Please, someone tell me which London pubs have Innis & Gunn on tap?

  • I just got a homebrew kit for my birthday (fermentation bucket, keg, brewing kit). I don't think I've ever been so excited, I can feel a whole new world of forums, bodging and geekery coming on. Just been looking some stuff up and it's like a different language. I'm gonna do the kit first, then I reckon it's in with both feet for the full grain brew. How long till I end up with a setup like this?

That's two mango-chutney barrels with kettle filaments hacked into them, and a cooler box. You could knock that together for less than £40. I'm building a set-up like that for friends right now.

I've asked a friend who should know such things and I'll let you know. I'm keen to find out too!

  • Reppoed!! :)

  • Asahi Black Imported.

I suggest you try it. Dry, smooth, with a whiff, a mere hint of sweetness, that never quite ocurrs.
An absolute triumph of a lager. Lovely when its freezing cold, .....the beer, not outdoors.

  • They have that at Abeno, London's Okonomiyaki specialists. Once again, thanking Aroogah for the tip off.

  • is it brewed by staropramen like normal asahi?

  • ^Think it really is imported from Japan, they've got it in the Draught House.

  • The INDEPENDENT seem have to have acquired a taste for Lists.........

Here's their latest Top 10 Bottled Beers.

Though I fear that the juornos at The Independent are all on crack, as there is no place for Innis & Gunn. Fail.

But seriously, this lists thing......are they reading this forum by any chance?

Off now to the Watches thread, with yet another Independent list. Weird.

  • I had cherry Belgian beer - Timmermans the other day, not entirely sure if I like it yet. Will need to try it again

no stout, no porter, no robust dark ales. list written by bland lager botherer. fail. there are a dozen beers made by fullers alone that are more tasty and interesting than discovery. doombar and anchor steam are nice. not a big fan of meantime to be honest, i find it too acidic. strawberry beer can get to fuck. the only people i know that drink that shit also drink corona and put three sugars in their tea. nuff said.
