Is there a fauna cafe?
-
• #1203
Are you assuming that availability of vegan food on the ride is a problem? All the food at the feed in GW is vegan, and the Flora Cafe do a decent vegan breakfast.
I though it was but had overheard other people suggesting that it probably wasn't reliably vegan. Besides, a feeding van can allow the meatengers to indulge their cruel, decadent and tasty, tasty ways.

my little pony jersey's are a vital to next years ride.

I second the MLP jerseys being imperative.

• #1206
You would.

If the situation arises, and Velocio's in a position to cover the cost of a van and coach, a £10 or £20 deposit (non-refundable if you drop out) is one way to stop people from dropping out unnecessarily and messing up the sums.

If you lot are serious about these I'll gladly finish off a design and look into costs etc. Though I don't think they'll be cheap.

I think you're missing the point. It's a my little pony jersey. Cost doesn't come into it. -

why should the forum pay for our coaches ? seems a bit harsh on the poor old server-enger
-
• #1211
Because if we have actually achieved sponsorship, and T-shirt sales, and still have donors... then the forum is then in a position that it makes more than it costs (there's always time for a first), and then it can start giving back by helping support the community a bit more.
I'm really happy for it to do that. I want it to be able to do things like that... and more, but hey, an LFGSS Dunwich coach is a great winner. Especially if we can park it up early and leave as soon as the last forumenger reaches it. Reduced waiting around and cover from bad weather :)

I'd suggest that next year there will probably be more than a coach full of people to take back from the forum.. There were around 40-50 of us this year I'd hazard a guess.
Also, what's to stop randomengers hearing about this, signing up to the forum and hitching a free ride back to London without contributing anything?

Got back from Dunwich last night after a lovely couple of days camping (mostly sleeping and eating). Brilliant, brilliant ride, though utterly exhausting and at times soul-destroying - those last 15 miles go on forever... Didn't meet many off here as I was riding with a roadie mate, but hello to Steff whose lighter I borrowed at the feed station, forgot to give back, then returned to him in the cafe queue in Dunwich. Noice one.

I would suggest against a furniture van unless someone has a Cat C licence to use. You;d only end up spending a premium on hiring a driver on a Sunday. You'd be better off renting a couple of 3.5 tonne trucks. The bus is a different matter though, unless someone around here is a PSV driver. My advice is to clarify your offer closer to the time, in the interests of economics.
I used to live in a 7.5 tonne furniture truck, I drove it around Europe for a few years. I could be a driver maybe if needed.

We will kill and eat them.

My truck in Spa, Belgium.
Could easily have got 50+ bikes in there, don't own it anymore though but do still have a licence.

Did you do it in the end, John? I can't remember seeing you.
You probably never managed to catch me up!
Got to the beach at about 8.10
I spent tooooo much time at the feed station, and suffered a bit with loss of feeling in my right arm towards the end - the bike is not set up for the ideal riding position.
Didn't any of you see me showing off in the park at the start?
I was wearing a straw cowboy hat most of the ride.

W-J - amazing! Saw you in the park at the start, and quite a few people were talking about you as we went along

Maybe only allow forumengers with member numbers less than 3230??....
Either that or keep it in private.
Either way, I don't think I'll be doing it next year. I've had two years now of perfect weather (apart from that 20 minute shower), I can't really top it now.

I saw you sat in a bus shelter after about 80 miles... I thought your bike was busted at first. It really is the most fantastically bonkers machine and I have no idea how you rode it further than the edge of the park.

i have really enjoyed DD the last three years but feel a bit like sam. if i do it next year it will be with the sole intent of actually getting to the beach in time to see the sun come up. i will then ride on to ipswich or diss again and get the train back to HQ.

I love the DD and I'm determined to do it every time that I can. I'll still keep looking for other rides, like the EE or the Dorset Dash that I've only just heard about.

hi oliver, i used the word apparently as like i said, it was the kitchen staff talking about it. i wasn't really in the mood for engaging them in an indepth conversation about the refurb plans ;)
Fair eeenooof. I'll ask Patrick.
shame i didn't get to say hello but i did catch a glimpse of you look very determined jumping back on your steed for the return leg. sorry to hear about your spoke nipple problem but much respect for getting that much time in the saddle in.
Cheers, shame I didn't bump into you, it's always nice to say hello in Dunwich!
I wish I could have stayed for longer--when I got to Dunwich, I thought: 'Excellent, for once I won't be in such a rush to get back to Ipswich', but then the group back went really early.
Next year, I'll try to do it properly for once: Get to Dunwich, get a swim in, nice late group back, weather permitting!

:)
I was expecting to see you when I was going back--if you got to Dunwich at 8:10 and took the 'official' route right to the end, I would have seen you somewhere on the road to Peasenhall, but you either rode that bike so skilfully that it looked like a non-wobbly bike, or I just didn't notice you.
Great effort, anyway!
What do you have in mind for next year--a wobbly ordinary, perhaps? ;P
