  • Open up the inside, look like indexed so far.

If you got the frame, put it on and feel how many click it got

  • Don't own the shifters yet, hence I'm asking. Thanks for your help.

Another question which you may also be able to answer, @edscoble:

Is it worth it to replace the RX100 derailleurs with this 7 speed 105 set for 15 pounds:

Practically I only need (the) downtube shifters, but it might not be a bad idea to put the whole set on there?

  • merci

  • Either one would work fine, hell, you can put a road 10 speed (as long it's not 4700) and it'll still work.

  • So I just bought a 90s look and have entered the magical world of campagnolo groupsets. Currently the bike has downtube shifters and I want to fit brifters. Can someone explain the differences between the 8spd C-record and the carbon chorus brifters? Are the records really worth double the price?

  • Nuke from orbit, just to be sure.

  • Kim il dan the tyrannical leader of LFGSS

I'm not going to fit da 7400 on a French bike. It's not right

  • Did I meet you at the pub?

  • Why not just call them La 7400 instead.

    Andy

  • Is it friction or indexed?

  • Not sure we have. We tried (and failed) to by a Sram groupset a few months ago

  • You are right I should have said I witnessed somebody buy a Look at a pub this week.

  • Indexed. It's for a kg 176 so I want to get brifters that are mid 90s

  • So I thought that might have been you.

  • Ah yes that is indeed me. I crap at remembering people's forum names.

I just remembered that I bought my Cervelo from @dan apologies for earlier rudeness!

  • Back on topic, anyone have an opinion on campy 8 spd ergo brifters?

  • Only @edscoble can index eight speed Campag to a standard that compares ever so slightly to more modern groups.

  • If you want mid-Nineties Campag, get 9 speed: the spring mount rings are still available, unlike for 8 speed (the G-springs are unchanged between 8 and 9 speed).

And no, the premium Record commands over Chorus isn't worth it.

"carbon" refers to the body of the shifter, so fractionally lighter: '94 Record got it first, then '95 Chorus.

If you must go 8 speed (but don't), then the look for "BB-system" on the body: the mechanism operates on ball bearings rather than bushes.

    PS "Brifter": just don't.

  • Thanks for the heads up. I'm less concerned about reliability as it's destined to be used very rarely and at slow speed. I'll start a project thread once I get cracking

  • Once the spring mount ring gives up the ghost, they won't work at all. The G-spring wears an indent into the ring where it pings back off the ratchet.

Once the indent is deep enough, the tension of the derailleur spring will overcome the shifter and you will lose your lower gears.

8 speed kit is going to be twenty-odd years old by now: early 9 speed has the C-Record era "look" (you could polish the branding off) without having one foot in the grave...

  • I'll probably stick with downtube shifters for the moment. Although I really dislike the modern shaped brake hoods so I'll equally never go 10-11 speed

  • Just get everything NOS- you did want to spend more on the Look than you have on the Cervelo, right?

  • I am tempted....

But apparently a new kitchen is "more important"
