  • You'll be fine, 28t is the recommended, with some tweak, 30t can work, maximum you can go.

  • I wrote my post unclearly - "get the longer cage one" was what I meant rather than "long cage". So I have the short cage, and the longer cage is the medium! Phew.

Thanks all for advice, probably going to swap even though it seems it will work with the 30 (indeed, it looks the same size as the one that was working) - thinking I might want to go up to a 32T on the back later in the year for a mini tour.

  • Anyone know whether the new tiagra shifters still play nice with 9 speed rear mech?
Or on that matter, with old 10 speed rear mech?
    Cheers,

  • In theory it should if the cable pull remain the same.

  • Yeah they said the cable routing on the shifter is different from 105, but no info yet on the pull.
Hoping there some forum members with first. Hand experience :)

  • Have a feeling it might be different, however the good news is that the new Tiagra can go up to 34t, so a 1-1 ratios is possible.

  • Found this on Chain Reaction;

I found out the expensive way the derailleur is not compatible with the older 4600 STI shifters. The cable pull ratio is different, confirmed by LBS, so I had to buy the 4700 STI shifters. Direct quote from the 4700 STI page.

"No, Shimano have changed the routing and cable pull ratio on the new 4700 Tiagra so they are only currently compatible with their corresponding 4700 and 4703 derailleurs. They won't work correctly with the earlier generation 10 speed systems."

Make sense as the derailleur look identical to the 11 speed version.

  • Which is the Dura Ace groupset where the large chainring had DURA ACE written around the edge? Nice looks.

  • I don't think it was a groupset. It was a TT specific ring(s) in larger sizes.

  • Ta!

  • Cheers ed!
That rules out buying shifters only then ha!

  • 5800 group on wiggle for £280

  • Does anyone know exactly which bits you'd need from SRAM to make a Red 22 hydro groupset? As in the rotors and brackets.

  • the rotors and brackets

Depends on the frame. 160 front 140 rear? Flat mount?

  • 160/140 Enve fork, flat mount rear

  • Just the rotors then; I think Sram prefers Avid ..

  • They're the same company.

  • so clean

  • ready tap

  • Get it with a single paintjob and it'll look even cleaner.

  • Question: Will Shimano 600 downtube shifters work on a 2x7 Shimano RX100 groupset?

I don't know anything about which downtube shifters work on which groupsets. Can anyone steer me in the right direction on which downtube shifters would work with this groupset?

  • Should be fine, if the 600 is indexed for 7 speed, or friction.

8 speed shifters however can work with 7 speed derailleur.

  • How to tell (from a picture) if it's indexed or friction?

    It's these ones:

  • I realise this is pretty basic, but can I use 10 speed chainset with an 11speed group?

Ultegra 6800 (11 speed) group with rotor compact double chainset.
