BB30 is a massively faffy and annoying standard, isn't it?
-
• #4403
Pah. Try stupid cervelo's bbright system... At least bb30 is common enough that there are a decent spread of workarounds.

At some point over the weekend I'm hopefully building a Bowman Palace with BB86, just going to try the DA 9000 BB with it and see how long it takes to kill it.

never had an issue with mine & only changed the bearings after 2 years when fitting a new groupset

Not quite, it's lighter, machined to more exacting tolerances than PF30 and "stiffer" than traditional BB's (as claimed by manufacturers).
Bearing's typically never need changing, although people like to change them out often or whenever fitting new groupsets (which is fine).
Fitting adapters isn't really a problem either, the pro peloton does it, and they haven't had any issues with cranks. It's often the case also that crank+bb30+wheelsmfg adapter is lighter than 24mm spindle crank + traditional BB.
People just hate it because you need a bearing press and you sometimes need to inspect the bearing seals.
Finally, bb30 -> hollowgrams.

The octalink bb that came with my secondhand xt crank is already causing the hands to wobble abit.
Any thoughts in choosing tiagra 4600 over sora 3500 cranks? Would love 105 5700/5800 but too much right now.

I've got a 6700 groupset with a compact crankset. I want to use the bike for a credit card tour, so I'll be travelling light.
I'm 99% sure the rear mech will be short cage. I'm thinking I'll need a 30t or 32t on the rear cassette (currently have a 12-28 which I'm guessing will be too low?).
So the question is, will I be able to use a 32t cassette on a short cage? The Internet answer seems to be maybe. I will only have a day, maybe 2 to sort out any problems before I leave so I'd rather not risk anything to chance.
Is my best option to just pony up for a long cage rear? Like this one:http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Shimano-Ultegra-RD-6700-GS-Road-Bike-Rear-Derailleur-For-Triple-Silver-/111658926520?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_3&hash=item19ff6401b8

34-28 should work for everything not constantly over 15% ?

But maybe better idea I have a new spare in North London which you can have for £30, say £25 and a beer?

They're trying to say it's wear and tear as I ride with hands over the hoods. Which I do. But in 500 miles!

That's unacceptable in my book.
Have you approached Madison or is this through the retailer?

How rough are your hands? Don't consider a career as a masseur.
-
• #4414
You won't be able to use larger than a 30t on a short-cage mech. 28t is the largest recommended.
A low gear of 34 x 28 is fine for light touring.

Yeah. Through Sigma, who aren't being too helpful. Madison aren't really my problem, my issues is with the person I bought from. Though madison told sigma the wear and tear line.

What would be the benefits / trade-offs of swapping from Red and Force combo to Ultegra? Weight penalty but better shifting? Is Di2 worth the extra £400 or so? Also, if I have the correct press tool (big Park one), would installing the Praxis BB30 bottom bracket be that difficult? Looks pretty simple and hard to screw up from their instructional video on YouTube.

Yes.

The new MicroSHIFT groupset look quite nice, a combination of Campagnolo and SRAM from the look of it;

Hello,
I'm looking for a groupset for a MTB, 1*x, preferably cheap and chain-drop-resistant.
So far I've looked at a 1*10 Shimano Zee derailleur with a narrow-wide front ring.
Anything cheaper out there? -
• #4424
Arsis? Needs a better name.
Looks cheap (understand that it actually is) -
• #4425
MicroSHIFT also need a better name.
If the price is right, it would mean decent shifting will be accessible to low-end bicycle.
Not happened to mine, which have done about 500 miles, mainly off road.
