  • Psych!

  • So, which groupset should I buy?

If you are not too poor to be able to buy campag buy an Dura Ace Di2 for the week end, an Ultegra Di2 for your weekly bike, and a 105 for your winter... as the thread seems to suggest!

I've got Dura Ace Di2 on one bike, Ultegra Di2 on another, I still can't afford Campag.

  • No it doesn't.

  • I got a 10 spd Campag Centaur carbon group 2 years ago for £230 in mint condition, just bought a Veloce one in similar unused state for £130. Both brilliant, reliable, and looks far better than Ultegra or 105 in my opinion. Also easy to find cheap chains, cassettes if you go to Ribble.

Granted, Record stuff is astronomic but as Tester says, the difference in weight is marginal and if you're not a top-level rider it's going to makes sweet fuck all difference to your chubby wee legs.

    Campag naysayers >>>>>>>>>>

  • Campag's shit.

    <<<< Naysayer

  • Without been silly as I was, I am still hesitant... I am thinking too to go for the Centaur (or Athena... :/)

  • oh, and the 'proprietary tools' are a 10mm allen key (£1.50) and a BB spanner (£10)...

Hardly going to break the fucking bank, is it?

  • sram

  • Shimano

  • No stupid thumb shifting

    opposable thumbs ftw!

  • your mum likes Campag

  • Your mum shops at Halfords, she doesn't even have a brand.

Cassette lockring tool? Chain tool so you can do that weird peening thing?

    Those two alone are £150

  • campag chain tool - the most stupid thing ever.

  • Your mum shops at Halfords, she doesn't even have a brand.

    Halfords is sick brand

  • Halfords is Boardman no?

  • Quicklinks, £4 for two

Cassette tool? Pick any number of generic ones that work perfectly well for cheep.

  • Halfords is Boardman no?

You calling my mum a Boardman?

  • So Shimano cheaper... and requires no tools... You can build a cheap Di2 bike by your own... Shimano --> poor cyclist

Campagnolo... too expensive... you need really specific tools... you can't afford to have it build up in a shop... Campagnolo --> rich cyclist!

    ... What about sram?

  • What special tools do you need for campy really? I dont have any special tools i always build with campy.

I was just trying to resume what people have to say against campag to understand why I should go back to shimano! My question since the beginning was a simple one... but then I started to find this thread really funny!

  • The price of Campag makes it a tough sell. At each price break Shimano competes or beats Campag on quality and performance but for a shit load less money.

The need for proprietary tools and the cost of a Campag cassette is enough to make me never want to buy

    You see...
