  • has anyone mentioned Power Torque yet?

  • Miles ahead? Really?

It's marketing bullshit. You've all been at the Kool Aid too long.

Not being a dentist, or millionaire mobile operating system/application botherer I've never been able to afford anything more modern than 10 speed Campag, so have no frame of reference other than the cycling press.

Wherein, you have to admit, the level of technical development significantly favours the fishing equipment makers over the "LOOK AT THE SHINY" boys from Italy.

Reading the cycling press makes difficult to choose. It depends also by the journalist who tested the groupset, and by how much the three big companies are ready to pay for a good review. I personally prefer opinions based on forum users.

"Not being a dentist" didn't you have an Ultegra Di2 before? Is it not more expensive then a 10 speed Campag?

  • To be fair Neil, your net spend on bikes is probably in the top 1% of everyone on here.

  • So apart from comments from a moron, it comes down to front shifting to make Shimano miles ahead. Right. Glad we cleared that up.

FWIW, I'm agnostic in the great groupset schisms. I have bikes with Campag, Shimano and SRAM.

Good for for you being punk enough to calling me a moron. And you might not remember this for turning my attention to wheels at South one evening. Thank you punk.

  • ^^^ all modern groupsets work, so really it comes down to how well you want them to work, what you like and how much you want to pay for replacement parts.

  • ^. Some of my bikes have Shimano, some have SRAM, some have Campag. It all works, and all has its pros and cons, none of which bear much resemblance to the alleged failings and advantages claimed by most keyboard warriors. The only real difference between them is electronic shifting, which rocks.

I've got Dura Ace Di2 on one bike, Ultegra Di2 on another, I still can't afford Campag.

I don't get it... Is Athena 11 more expensive then a Dura Ace Di2?

  • Dura Ace equivalent would be Super Record EPS, and that's into serious money territory.

Plus, there is no hydraulic disc option, which of course doesn't matter to very many people, but was something I wanted for my most recently completed project.

Well, because I am not as rich as who can afford an electronic groupset (or two)... or I don't want to spend a lot of money on the bike at the moment, or whatever... my first question was if it makes sense to spend few extra pounds to go from 10 speeds (centaur) to 11 (athena).

  • Hahahaha that was a good'n

  • Campag Super Record EPS- £2,686.29.
    Dura Ace Di2 £1,999.99

That's enough of a saving to buy a complete Ultegra 6800 group for your winter bike, plus a pair of wheels.

  • just upgraded from 6600 (triple oh god why) to 6700. very very pleased

  • Not 6800 though is it Andy? >>>>>>>.

  • The campagnolo EPS shifters are very very very nice.

Well.. maybe there are few people who even don't have the problem of a winter bike! (does it keep you more warm while riding??? Just kidding)

  • nah - you just feel less guilty about not cleaning it.

  • You should see my Serotta, if I cleaned it the weight reduction would be ~25%

  • Well I probably choose the wrong thread... didn't realize how rich I need to be to write here!

    :P

  • If you want a cheap groupset. Get 105.

Nothing else comes within a universe for quality for the value for money.

  • 105 comes with a universe? Fucking bargain.

  • Ultegra 6800 is, I think, a massive bargain at ~£500.

What complete groupset would you get from Campag or SRAM at that price?

(I genuinely don't know the answer to this, and am WAY to lazy to look it up)

I think Centaur, and maybe (not sure) Athena
