What I liked about the new 11 speed is that it's literally 1 more over the 11-25 10 speed.

  • The 11 speed 11-25 cassette is very nice as a 'one cassette to rule them all' road cassette, together with a 50/34 compact.Good balance of range, and jump size.

Thinking of going 52/36 next year. It'll be a smidge better for my usual road biking. Not sure if the extra 2" at the low end will require a climbing cassette for hitting the mountains. My initial thoughts are HTFU.

  • I used 36/27 on Nibberittet, was fine- seated until the final clay, but that was only because my glutes had started to rebel.

Nothing more, just something tagged at the end that you don't need anyway on top of the 12-13-14-15-17-19-21-23-27 9 speed. Who needs variations of the granny gear?

What this 12-13-14-15-16-17-18-19-21-23-25 gives is tight ratios that must be a pleasure to ride and 25 should be enough for Kent.

    No we are talking.

  • But I got to go to the bank now.

  • And I need to ditch the 8 speed for 11.

I thought I'd ridden 34:23 (couldnt get on the biggest cog). But I was reminded last night I wasnt riding my wheels. But a mates with a 12-27. So it was 34:25 I was on.

I may just swap my chainrings while they have a bit of life left. Then go back to 50/34 for geiranger trips. Its the only climb I do, long enough to make those last few gear inches count. I cant really be bothered to buy a climbing cassette just for that.

I'd be more than happy 36:25 doing Trollstigen for example. Shot up it 41:26 on the fixed.

  • Or run a 52/34 combo.

  • Only Italians.

I assumed 20 was the biggest jump at the front. Part of the idea was a more usable little ring. Still, as my little ring hasnt seen much action (sadface*). I could just start by replacing the big ring.

    (*sorry. But it is Friday)

  • 53/39 SRAM Force 22 with a 11-25…

  • Banging. Force is a great groupset.

Getting 11 speed soon. Not sure I'll notice any really difference on a roadbike to 10. WHat's 1 cassette going to give you? Not much.

  • I dream of a day when I could do hill climb ride with that ratio ^^

    #weak

Put a 46/30 chainset on and one day, you *might.

what's that going on? Disco bike?

  • I can manage on 53/39 with 12-30 but 53/39 with 11-25 .. oof

I think I was on 34:25 for Nibbersnibbles - I only needed to use the 25 when I weas being lazy though.

  • If you're not group riding at fast pace, a compact is more than ever enough, and a lot nicer to ride with a close block in back. Compact and 11-25 or 11-27/28 would be perfect.
I want to put one on my all use bike. Far more useful for most people that 53X39. 50x11 is a massive gear. And 34x25 is a very practical gear.

    50x11 at 100rpm is 36 mph.

  • 46-34 11-28

    who needs legs

  • I can manage on 53/39 with 12-30 but 53/39 with 11-25 .. oof

What are you trying to prove? 50/34 does not equal weak.

You got pretty much a touring block with a race cassette.

I sat on the 25 the whole way. I got out of the saddle loads because of the dicky leg. But shifting gear just because you're standing? aint nobody got time for that.

  • Where do you live Furry? Planning a tour next year from Oslo through to Ålesund, down the coast to Bergen and through back to Oslo..

  • What time of year? The Geiranger to Dalsnibba ride is in June.
