  • ultegra = commuter?!? da faq!

  • yep, see my post above

  • Someone is/was selling Tiagra 10sp new and unused for £250. UTFS.

Buy that ^ and maybe a 48t TA outer ring and you're either laughing, or wondering why you bothered switching from fixed.

  • ultegra = commuter?!? da faq!

didn't your old ti commuter had ultegra?

well yeah but i never thought of it as a commuter groupset, thats one groupset below their top one, would you call Force or Record commuter?

  • I ride all the time with 105 - wouldn't call it commuter since It's my weekend bike too - I don't want to go higher as it will wear faster for little gains.

Ride whatever you can afford to replace when it's worn out, as you go higher things cost more to replace and could wear out faster.

    +2

1 for the point you are trying to make
    1 for shimano 105

also if I may add SRAM Apex to commuter league

No one said Ultegra wears out faster. I find it exceptionally durable.
I do use cheaper chains and cassettes on the winter bike.

  • You can pick up old DA group that's been cared for and have DA commuter. I think DA for commuting specifically is overkill but if you have the cash who cares?

  • people commute in cars or buy horrendously expensive travel cards.
compared to that pretty much any groupset is commuter material.

  • this thread is like fucking Groundhog day.

    1. Some people like Campag, some people like Shimano - they like to argue about it. Both are fine, as is SRAM.

    2. Choose your groupset manufacturer based on the comfort of the hoods and shifting action FOR YOU. Do not listen to the internet, everyone's hands like different things.

    3. Choose your tier of groupset based around what you can afford to buy, and what you can afford to replace when stuff wears out. You can always choose to use cheaper chains/cassettes going forward.

    4. Anything over Force, Ultegra or Chorus is probably overkill unless A) you are the next big thing in cycling, or B) are a tart with money to spend.

  • Good summary. I'm not sure Campag users would like Chorus compared with Ultegra ;)

In fairness, it's worth pointing out that some groupsets represent slightly better value for money at various price points. Also that there are some parts that are worth downgrading if cost (either purchase or replacement) is an issue. I'm thinking of cranks, front mechs, chains, cassettes, and maybe brakes.

can't you give me an internet diagnosis as to which one will fit my hands?

  • ^^ I'm not sure that helps, that's just how things are priced?

Veloce is lighter than Ultegra (for example). There are inherent differences between the systems.

Ride them all, pick the one you like, spend money until you no longer notice a difference.

Microshift for the left hand and Nuevo Record for the right?

    tl;dr

    Buy Shimano.

Internet diagnosis? You need hoops for that.

  • Robs looking a bit chubby in that photo

  • Uh oh

  • He's probably just got a bumbag on under his jersey.

    Buy Shimano.

    +1

seriously what kind of a person you have to be to buy campag!?

  • Thin.

  • ^was waiting for you to pipe up
i think some may claim that campagnolo users have to be more highly evolved as opposable thumbs are required - though this goes for sora users too

  • Thin.
