Anyone doing Fleet Half Marathon on the 16th?
Only running 5km at the moment but sure I pull somthing together in two weeks. -

^ this
also, check for rough seams inside at the blister points as this can sometimes be fixed with soap
How does the soap help?
-

Theory is by rubbing a bar of soap over the area it coats the seam which reduces friction. Needs to be done before every run. I got full life from a pair of Mizuno that had a sharp seam this way back in '03.

So, Paris half completed. A very nice course, medium fast. Could do with rethinking their bag check system and about twice as many bogs, but otherwise excellent for a big city race. The weather turned out perfect: 8ºC, sunny, no wind to speak of.
For future reference, I can say that crocking your foot, not running for 12 days and then bashing out a race will have consequences. Painful consequences, reducing me to a hobble because of the foot and quads that don't know what's hit them.
Although I'm pleased to see my fitness hasn't suffered too much: only 5 mins slower than PB and I cruised until 10k, when the foot started to get sore and I just wanted the race done with! (2 min negative split :)

Is that a warm-up event for the full marathon? Good route?

:(
Are you sure it was the shoes and not socks etc? I love mine
Yeah, same socks that are fine with my other Frees (can't remember what number they are). They do feel different to whatever the others I have are. Should've paid more attention when trying them on.
Don't ditch the shoes just yet - Different shoes and sock combinations can have different effects. You might just need to try different socks. -

Also I found that different inner soles make a difference due to where they position your foot in the shoe (I expect).

I should think so, the timing is appropriate.
Route was v pretty:

FFS. Managed to sike myself up to attempt a half in my Skoras this evening. I'm stuck in a tiny German town, so naught else to do. But I'm still at the plant I'm visiting. Let me finish and go back to the hotel now please.........

lost my mojo this weekend. not been sleeping properly and felt constantly tired, weather was shit, I had 3 days off total in feb (not counting the day I commuted by bike instead of a rest day) so I decided I'd have a rest. no running today or yesterday.
Overtraining? This happened to me when i started running more than 2 or 3 times a week.
Get back on it soon. It has been sounding really good.

Possibly but more likely just a case of the blerch, did my 7 miler today no worries session was bit of a fartlek session as I just ran according to how I was feeling so pace ranged from 6:15 to 9:30. finished on a nice steady fast pace but not enough that I'll be tired for tomorrows strenth drills.
It's a big mileage week this week so I'm going to have to be careful to run the prescribed amounts and paces now though and not try to 'make up' for lost distance from the weekend otherwise I'll end up overdoing it. this week and two weeks time are my last two big long runs (16 miles).

Feel very slow today, I don't know if Is yesterday's efforts or yesterday's beers, probably a combination of the two, hopefully I'll feel strong again tomorrow!

Have decided I really like half marathons, next year is going to be all about getting quicker in them. I reckon with specific training I could get sub 1.25, I might have to hire my own pace maker though!
My legs are still pretty sore today though!
Back to being a triathlete for now!

I suggest you go to your room and think about how what you just said makes other people feel. Come back when you're ready to say sorry.

Have you done a half IM yet? I love training for longer races and then stepping down to shorter ones. Even if you're good, IM distance racing is pretty attritional and even if you are racing for a time, it still sometimes feels like it's all about survival. Dropping back down to HIM feels great because you suddenly get the feeling it's a distance that you can actually race. Awesome.

No halfs yet, I'm doing one in June, so guaranteed a PB if I finish!
Completely agree, I feel a bit like Sundays time was more the product of being able to push myself hard for quite a long time rather than being a good runner at the moment!
Oh and apologies sparky, it causes awkwardness in a lot if situations for me, but I try to remember the advice from tropic thunder "never go full triathlete""

I ran home today (in old shoes) and it wasn't awful! I was listening to a playlist mainly consisting of Suicide, the Sound and the Slits so I can only assume my previous runs of late just haven't been edgy eighties enough. Anyway, I am so buoyed I may attempt a there and back on Thursday.

I have now ruined it all my discovering the joy of pancakes with a) halloumi and b) biscuit spread, though
-
• #8148
it's ok biscuit spread has been an integral part of my training so far.
-
• #8149
Phew.
It's technically Tom's, he's not going to be happy about this. Maybe I should eat the evidence and say we got burgled or something.

Say HatBeard came round and ate it. He's got clear motive!

back on it tomorrow, hopefully the batteries will be a bit more recharged by then, no more slacking off until after marathon day now though, sticking to the plan 100%
