I have to pay a running license now. New Viking law.
I already pay for a license for my bike races*. Which I kinda understood from an insurance perspective. But I'm at a loss at why I'm being taxed to run......:(
(Blowing snot bubbles, while muttering 'cunt' under your breath at the person in front = race)

^ TIL: walking through the tunnels at tube stations is also a race.

It totally is.
I'm actually pretty chilled on a mass start run. I know my own ability inside and out. So it makes no difference to me where other runners might be.
My cycling form shoots up and down. So I tend to base my effort on beating those around me.

My experience of mass start RACES is limited, but both the marathon, and the park-runs that I have done have been amusing.
Every time I ran the Richmond parkrun seriously I was top 10 (top 5 all bar one I think?), and yet all the people would push to the front.
(Obviously I don't expect people to not do that just because I'm there, more just the miss-match between start position and finish position). The sprinting and jostling for position on the heal of the pace runner for the marathon in the first mile was mindboggling.
I genuinely think most people had forgotten that there were another 25 miles afterwards in which to get to your own pace.TL:DR I have less sharp elbows than most people

So you can always win the "but you don't pay road tax" argument?

The start of actual races if fuckin' lols. Twatting it at 3 min / km pace for the first 200m, seeing your HR hit 190, then breath out your arse for the next 2 km. -

I honestly wait till last. Start slow to warm up then speed up. Even if you're only average compared to every one else. You will still have the pleasure of over taking around half the field over the course of the run.
Plus if you're on a timing chip. You know you have a few seconds in hand. So if you're next to someone. You know in your mind that you are actually ahead of them time wise. Which feels nice.
Its a far more positive experiance than rudely elbowing to the front, being a cunt, and gradually being overtaken by half the field.

I think this is a london thing. When I first got here I was shocked at the 'must get to the front'-ness of the jimmy joggers. It's like london's nodders....

^ That's a good point, hadn't considered the nodder connection.
^^ I'm usually about half way back at the start, agree entirely about running past people though, fun fun :)

How many pairs am I allowed?

Does anyone want a pair of stability shoes in size 11.5 for cheaps? US/UK size cock-up...
I ran with them the other day and it's not right. Will probably hurt myself trying to pretend I didn't waste £60. Anyone have big feet? They're Nike Structure 16+.

at least one more than you currently have.
i reckon my next pair is going to be a pair of road racing shoes that I can also use for longer sessions on the track. then i'll need some summer track spikes... etc.

(Pathetic justification follows) I bought a pair of Asic trail running shoes before Christmas as I was going to my parents (who live a couple of minutes from fields), and very much enjoyed legging it around wearing them.
To the point that I now do all my road running in my trail shoes, and wear my road shoes (Adidas ones) to go to the shops.
I popped into the Asic store and they reco'd the GT 2000-2 as the road version of my Fuji-Trabuco trail shoe.

I know they are the wrong size for you but do you know how they come up generally, I'm usually 11 but need 11.5 in my Mizuno's
and most importantly, what colour are they? -

I currently have a small closet full of trainers. You can never have enough IMO.
