  • I'm sure someone here might be kind enough to lend you one. Dammit and Hatbeard probably have 2 or 3 spare sitting in a drawer somewhere.

  • change the display from speed to pace and remember to change workout type to use run not ride after you've uploaded it. should be fine. there's a watchstrap that can take the edge mount too if you wanna wear it on your wrist.

  • The watch strap would have the Edge facing the wrong way though. I may have a spare strap...

I've only got the one I am afraid- I tend to sell the old one to (partially) fund the new model.

  • I have no time to buy (and dont want to spend) cant i just keep it in my pocket?

Can i just start/stop it rather than creating and following a workout?

  • Yes.

But you won't look like a runner.

Which is what it's all about.

  • thats good to know; where do i change it from cycling to running? If i dont use workout.

  • stop start is fine, workout type is when you upload it to the web on strava or connect as it will pre-select cycling.

  • Can i just start/stop it rather than creating and following a workout?

HB meant (I think) change the upload type from Ride to Run, otherwise you'll end up with some slowwwww rides!

    GAHHHHHHH he's so fast!!!!

  • Got it! Thanks guise.

    ★★★★☆

  • for full cross-discipline points you could also wear it like dc rainmaker does on the first leg of his triathlons under a swimming cap (in case of monsoon season perhaps).

  • link?

    edit: ooops

Note – this may be mentioning the obvious, but for the love of all things not-waterproofed, please do NOT put the Garmin Edge (cycling version) on your head and go swimming. It’s not designed to take water from the bottom and will die about 2 seconds after being submerged.

sorry but no tri for you. I was thinking of the forerunner... http://www.dcrainmaker.com/2007/09/how-to-swim-with-your-garmin-forerunner.html

  • TW2 can you look into that spare strap?

  • amey - I used an edge 800 for running for a bit, I didn't put it on a strap but instead just put it in my pocket. My only advice if you do that is to lock the screen in case other things in your pocket accidentally stop the timer or change settings etc.

  • Why do you need a fancy Garmin? I judge my pace using the fluctuations in the evening shadows.

  • Mentioned to me my Oliver Schick:

Run Hackney - Half marathon, June 2014.

  • That's a lot of money to run around Hackney!!

  • I know. Srsly - fuck that. I'm fucked if I'm ever paying more than a tenner to do a mass start event* ever again.

    • Not a race.

    Because they aren't races.

    FFS.

  • The swag bag would have to be pretty imressive to justify that..

Couple of days of stretching and 1mile runs have seemed to sorted my aches so gonna attempt 10miles with Liz on sunday instead of my full 18, will see how I go.
Don't like not being able to just walk out the door and go for it with careless abandon as usual.

  • ^^ I'm fucked if I'm ever paying to enter anything ever again. I'll just take places off people who haven't done the training and bail at the last minute...

(this is a lie, I'm becoming a slevless and paying to enter an AQUATHLON, wtf...)

  • 43 quid for one race* (excluding early bird discount) and then they have the gall to charge a processing fee.

    get to fuck.

I'll now mostly keep referring to them as races to wind TW2 up.

  • I'm organising a half marathon around Peckham: £95 entry and you get a free kebab at the end.
