Rookie question but is it even worth planning a run for tomorrow if the snow has compacted/gone slick in a lot of places or should I just get down the boozer.
I can't see london getting too slippery. Stick to grass where possible, or sidewalks that are cleared / gritted or run in the road as a last resort.
Get out, get wet cold and miserable, smile, then hit the boozer.

Running in 5 inches of snow is awesome but knackering, muscles I didn't even know were involved in running are sore!

I've been in my awesome* skins onsie all day just so I can go out again tomorrow.
The field full of sheep was a highlight, something about chasing a pack of sheep appealed to the dog in me!
*taking a dump is awkward and cold.

Four mile run up, around and down Tulse Hill, lunch in Brixton, sprint the half mile home. Five-toed footprints all over the streets ;-) Too much fun. Going to run to/from work at least once this week.

Just got in from 9k around victoria park, as ^ says, super nice in the snow. Quiet and peaceful and only happy people about. New shoes too, got along well with them, but less grip than my old ones, will be interesting to see how they'll work on wet grass when spring comes.

Inspired by the forum to get out for an hour around Hampstead Heath and surrounding bit of the frozen north. Once I got away from the posh idiots, screaming children and dogs in coats (HTFU) it was wonderful.
Garmin battery was flat, nice change to be just running for the sake of it.

Driving back from picking up a new bike this morning eastbound on Thurlow Park Road I spotted a chap out for a run.
He had blue shorts on.
That was it.

I ran my first 10k this weekend in 48 min, so lots of room for improvement and the conditions weren't ideal but I was pleased.
Around 3 miles in I get a dull aching in my left knee which hurts the worst at the point it is stretched forward the most and then when my heel strikes the ground. I've read up a lot on overpronating and I went into Runners Need on Friday to have a go on one of their treadmills. The helpful lady pointed out that my heels twist inward when they follow through and that this is contributing to my knee pain...but I get the feeling that she'd have said the same thing whether it was true or not.
Anyway, I bit the bullet and invested in a pair of Brooks GTS 12 that were on sale. I've not used these yet and am debating whether a change in trainers would actually make a difference? Would, for example, trying a pair of minimalist trainers and trying to land mid/fore foot be better for my knee than just get trainers with more cushioning..

@richoking, did they not film your running and show you afterwards? That's what happened to me when I visited their Strype Street store, but I already knew I over-pronate that's why I have rigid insoles.
Run and Become in Victoria are helpful, in my experience, anyway. They get you to run and up down outside the store and tell you what they think about your running style and which type of shoe would be suitable for you.

They did, but having read a few things online I'm questioning the validity of the assumption that stiffer soles will rectify the problem. Several sources claim overpronation is a sympton and not the cause of knee pain, which is why I was thinking a shoe that discourages heelstrike might be a better idea.

I personally find that I pronate more in structured shoe for exactly this reason, on video all they do is let you pronate to a point then stop dead which looks painful.
I tend to go for shoes with little or no structure on the basis that people have been running for a long time without special shoes to fix them and seem to have survived, so I probably will too.
Having said that I seem to have hurt my feet running in a more minimalist shoe recently so need to take steps to stop landing quite so hard/scrunching my toes when I run.

Oh right. Insoles help manage the problem but they are not a cure, as I know.
Maybe you could try forefoot running with your current shoes and, if that is successful, then buy a different type of shoe.

Would old shoes that have lost some support be a possible cause for ITB pain / tight glutes? I've always had this issue, but it seems to be worse over the last month (might be the cold weather)
I run in Nike Free 5 or 3s, am pretty light on my feet, and try to always stretch well after a run -

Got sore inner thighs after the snowy run yesterday. Had new shoes so could be that, or can it be that it was a bit slippery out so I've engaged different muscles?

I'd think mostly the latter - it's similar to running on sand, puts a lot more work on your stabilising muscles

I've been loving it I have to say.
Keep it slow and considered on pavement(no leaning), then run around like a loon when you get to the park!
