Well done Tricity that is a very respectable time. Yesterday was my first marathon, and I loved it can't wait to do another. The organisation was brilliant and the atmosphere in Brighton was amazing. Well done to you all. And is you ever start doubting what you have achieved just read the quote on the back of your finishers t-shirt.

annoyingly close, left knee is sore, still up for london if anyon hears of any places going.
Two races in one month at that pace is asking for trouble. Get some rest! (And bloody well done.)

May have a friend who wants to give up his edinburgh marathon place? That's on the 27th May, gives you recovery time and some extra-training...plus edinburgh is a faster marathon. Not sure how to go about changing places though? Let me know, and I'll see if he is still not running it.

Massive congratulations on everyone's marathon achievements. Fantastic efforts all round.
I'm trying a change of tactic with my running. Never been able to consistently make the effort to do the usual 6-8 mile ones, so tonight I planned a route round the houses here and knocked out a 5k. Reckon there's more chance of me regularly dragging my arse out of bed in a morning for a short sharp 20 min run than taking an hour out of my evening. Would still be good to manage a longer one at the weekend.
I'd never heard of the park run thing before reading about it on the previous page, but I've got myself signed up. Definitely keen on the Hampstead Heath one, just have to try avoid being too hungover first thing on a Saturday morning. Anyone else up North fancy it?

Yes!
Get foot to someone medical. And I don't mean a pharmacy :-).
I decided I was at risk of amputation if I left it too long so I just did some diy surgery with some painkillers and a pair of scissors. I had to sacrifice a lot of foot but on the plus side the bit that looked like it had gone septic is no longer.
such a catch

When you guys were marathon training what's the biggest distance you ran? A few people have said to me you shouldn't run the full distance before.
-
• #3311
The furthest I ran was 22 miles whilst training. There is a school of thought that suggests running the distance whilst training means a better time on the day. 22 miles is more than enough for me.

The Norwich half is later this year. I haven't ran for a while because my knee flared up really bad a month or so back.
I'd really like to run it but don't want to risk ballsing my knee up again.

20 miles was the furthest I did. We had a pro coach give a marathon training talk at my running club and he advises all the runners he coaches not to run for more than 3hrs as the longest run, even if the full marathon may take them 5. As running for more than that takes too much out of you and it takes too long to recover and any session you do after that will not be as of good quality.
Have to say I didn't take this bit of advice as 20m took me 3:17. -

^^ I would have thought it's far enough away for slow, effective training. You sought running medical advice? I don't mean your GP either.
-
• #3315
Nope I've had medical advice for my knees for cycling - insoles and wedges under my cleats.
I'm going to try the insoles for running too, hopefully that'll make a difference.
If it doesn't what other options do I have?

i'd advise against running the full distance for a different reason, it takes some of the fun out of the day, i didnt feel that up for a marathon all the way around, but then i did do a 31miler in training....

Have to say I didn't take this bit of advice as 20m took me 3:17.I tend not to run more than 2h30 in preparation, but my marathon times are usually around 3 hours or so. This year though, I've not run over 2hrs in training as I have found it harder to build up to good quality longer runs (and have not enjoyed running as much as i used to). I'm a bit worried with the Edinburgh marathon only 5 weeks away and I've not run over 2hrs.
However, this week, in anticipation of a weekend away cycling, I've run 35miles in three days and have another 20miles planned over the next 2. At the moment it's all about good quality stretching. -

So tonight should have been a speed session at the track with the club. However, I'm indoors having had a draining day at work. Comfort eating and some alcohol is working a treat. Just need to get out there tomorrow instead now.

If anyone is going to the London Marathon on Sunday and wants to join me cheering, I’ll be there (in work capacity) at mile 13.5. I will have ponchos...
-
• #3322
I will be cheering on my sister, unless anyone has looked at the weather forecast and decided not to run?!!
Done my first run since paris today, 5k in 22 minutes, felt pretty comfortable, slight twinge in the left knee but I think I'm recovered now.

Ha I had a minor tantrum in a toilet queue too and then got to the front and Could Not Pee despite having been desperate. And then felt massively guilty for taking ages after my murderous thoughts towards cubicle predecessors.
