These are too small for me unfortunately....:(
Which means they're up for grabs at cheap.
@SideshowBob thanks for recommendation

Shorts with the built in mesh
Never understood how people run in these, first thing I do is scissor them out....
In other news, go careful out there! Went for a lunch run, turned a corner and ended up slipping about 5 meters down the pavement on sheet ice, ended up grabbing a hedge to stay upright!

Im struggling to find any sizing info on their site - what size tops do you normally wear?
-
• #29781
I do usually float around m/l, medium if I'm at 'raceweight' or depending on brand. Medium in ronhill. Large in asics
I'm 6'1" broad but prefer a looser fit t-shirt.
These are meant to be an athletic fit, so I could wear them if I liked a snug fit.
I can measure them later if you're interested, although I think the shorts and long-sleeve may be partly sold. -

This looks good! Was once a week sufficient?
-
• #29783
With doing StrongLifts once a week too I think it is. It would usually still be feeling it 2-3 days after so wouldn’t want to do it close to long runs at the weekend anyway.

Are recent Altra shoes really as poorly built as reviews online would have you believe? I’ve got some Topo Athletic trail shoes that I love, but on the road side I have some Hoka Clifton 8s in wide, tried them a few times, but their high sided insoles don’t agree with my feet.
I much prefer running on trails, but it is a touch limiting doing laps of parks or connecting as much trail as one can in south London. So im trying to open things up a little by solving my road running shoe for wide feet issue without the expense of ordering another pair from Topo Athletic in the states

Have you tried any Brooks? Having worn Cliftons and various models of Brooks myself, I'd say a wide fit of something like Brooks Ghost might be worth a try?
-
• #29786
I haven't had any issues with Altra build quality but I haven't got any of the very latest versions, I had two pairs of Mont Blancs from 2022 that are going strong still, Lone Peak All Weather boots from last year that lasted a 200 mile run happily and Escalante 4s from about 4 years ago that I'm just about to retire. Got some of the Vanish Carbons 2nd hand, the outsole wore through pretty quick but I think that is to be expected of the fancy race shoes. Man I sound like an Altra fan boy.... Annoyingly they are the only easily available in the UK running shoes I can wear now if I'm not in minimalist shoes. Even Vivos are too narrow for me!

@PhilPub ah cheers for the suggestion! I haven’t actually tried Brooks because the drop on them is pretty substantial, I spend a lot of time in low-0 drop shoes and not sure I want to stray away from it, it’s an annoying limiting factor no doubt.
@Philipflop okay sweet maybe you’ve convinced me then. I bought the Topo’s awhile back after looking at Altra trail shoes and lots of people online saying they’re not as wide and ‘natural’ shaped as they once were, but like you say, they’re the only really easily available shoe of their kind here in the UK, and if you can’t fit in vivos (i have some on now) but like the Altras then they must be good for the hobbit-footed people like us

I think there is definitely some truth in the "they are not as wide as they used to be" but I think that mostly relates to the toe box, certain models still have the "original" width. My main issue with other shoes is around the arch / where they lace up being too tight. I would have to size up to clown length shoes to fit where I don't with Altra.

I have a pair of these of

in a UK 7.
I've worn them a couple of times (no more than 10 I reckon) - they're a bit tight on my trottersIf you can cover the postage you can have them.
LET ME KNOW WHO WANTS TO PUT THEIR FOOT IN THE SAME SHOE I HAVE WORN.

Got seville Marathon in a about 5 weeks. Few teething issues!
shin splints not too bad, but still there a bit. if I press the side of my leg around my shin it is a very sharp pain like I'm being stabbed. Training not going amazingly
Also getting massive headaches the day after my long runs at the weekend. ran 26km yesterday in about 2 hours 30 and my head isn't good today. Never been one to use hydration assistance - have had pints of water after
not sure if my shorts (which i love, ron hill ones) are getting worn or what but I feel like i've just been on a week long cycle tour with an uncomfortable saddle

Then start...?
it's not just water you're losing, it's salts etc. -

running distances I've not done before! Grab some dioralyte type stuff?
-
• #29796
Prefer stuff like https://highfive.co.uk/products/zero?variant=31620327211080 compared to Dioralyte.
In the absence of that, eat a packet or two of salt and vinegar crisps along with your post run pint(s) of water.

Soreen Stanbury Splash today. 6.7 miles, 1100ft/ 11km 330m.
I’ve not been running much recently, or riding for that matter, but have been squeezing in some treadmill sessions and short runs. Losing 10kg-ish has definitely helped a lot.
Raced Boxing Day and had a good run out on a similar course, a bit less steep and more road. But a pleasant surprise given the lack of training.
So came in today with hopes of maybe running fairly well. Managed a course PB - about 2:15 faster than when I last raced the course.Generally feeling pretty good about my running at the moment, and have been looking at the race calendar - hopefully can keep up regular racing and make the most of this good form and leaner physique!

There was a BYU in Putney today, only heard about it Friday.
They're hopefully repeating in summer.
https://www.instagram.com/theputneyloop?igsh=MXV5cXFqYzBneXFnbA==Had 21km to do on the plan for London.
4:30 for 8, 4:15 for 7, 3:50 for 6.
Felt ok. -

Shin Splints: I had some which became stress fractures. Could barely walk or stand. One minute fine, the next…it felt like my leg was broken, then back to normal.
I found I could ride a bike to maintain endurance while my legs healed. -

So we’ve established you’re not hydrating during runs - are you fuelling? I ran my first marathon last October and was shocked a just how many gels I had to take on to fuel adequately. You should be fuelling your long training runs how you plan to fuel your marathon to familiarise yourself with race nutrition.
I wear a pair of tight shorts like these from Decathlon under normal (unlined) shorts.
Shorts with built in liners just used to rip me to shreds.
