Thanks, don't need HR and no plans for a marathon, slow or otherwise.

A great read, thanks. Well done!

Glad to hear I'm not the only one here who went flat on their arse on that final descent.

In 2016 I started unstructured jogs in the summer and worked up to a 40 min 10k in Feb. This year I’m just pootling around so I’m not slow when I go for Christmas in Sydney. Much easier to take shoes than a bike!
5km around 5:10/km today so that’s better already, see how the legs feel tomorrow. Might bump it up to three runs a week - get as much autumn leaf sadness in as possible.
Quite jealous of your country runs. Might see about running around Epping forest.

Great report, and glad you're back on track/trail.

@BringMeMyFix @alialias
Cheers! I'm always convinced no one reads these things, haha. The Tour of Pendle is just over a week away - that'll be a proper test to see if I'm back in the game (16.5 miles, 4400ft).@5awyr
It was inevitable really. Roclites + wet grass = game over. Don't reckon I lost any time though, pretty frictionless sliding! -

Are Roclites and wet grass a bad thing? I'm wearing my pair of 290s for the Grand Union Canal HM on Sunday. Going to take it easy, and it's flat, so maybe I'll be fine even in the pissing rain…
Last month I somehow managed 445km. No plan as such. Just decided to do steady running while I recovered from turning my ankle at parkrun. Trying to transition to speedwork now for a last 2018 assault on the sub-17.
Meanwhile, I've fallen (not literally) for the New Balance Fresh Foam Beacon, the weird one with hardly any rubber outsole. It's great. I was slightly wary about trying it for a long run last weekend as it's more springy than cushy, but it felt great over 30km with a lot of up and down.
I liked it so much, I bought the company!
(well, I stocked up on a couple of pairs of spares on special offer - bonus is no more wasting time thinking about what running shoes I'll need next)

Not really - just on very steep downhill grass. I have a pair of Roclite 325s (high ankled monstrosities) that I've been using to keep my ankle in check. The rubber isn't as grippy and the tread isn't really designed for the fell, that said, I've managed fine in them apart from a few slippy wet descents.
I did buy a pair of Inov8 x-talon 212s the other day as my new racing shoes but they're just too narrow. Annoyingly, they're absolutely bloody great to run in - until they start to hurt my feet.
£40 anyone? Size 9uk. Done literally 10 miles on the fell/trail.

Bargain!
I read your long post too, nice one. Reminds me I've entered Bowstones nye so hoping my knee allows me to do it justice rather than trot around. Beer at finish & missing last year with PF means I'm keen to run it one-way or the other

^^ I love my x-talon 190, but those would hurt my feet even more than yours, cos I'm 9.5. GLWS!, etc.
I'm off to Thailand for a couple of weeks. Yay! Taking my Brooks Ghost with me... keep an eye on Strava to see whether they make it out of the suitcase. :)

Just picked up gt2000's v6 for the run commutes, don't seem much different to v5.

Might see you there (if you happen to hang around that long after you’ve finished).
Hope you have a good one.

You too!
Will be playing it a bit by ear/legs on the day as we have Surrey League x country on Saturday and they tend to be quite draining.

After some advice,
Was recommended to start doing squats to help prevent possible injury and build up leg strength.
I just did 4 sets of 25 and my left knee was really starting to hurt, like a sharp, shooting pain. This happened the last time I tried squats, about a year ago, and the reason I shelved squats.
Any advice on what I should do? Avoid them? Try something else?

With weight?
We can go running! I reckon you’re a 4 min / km runner at worst.
Personally I’ve always found numeriscising running makes it harder to progress.
I like to run on feel and put numbers on later (wear a tracker but ignore it till done). From that you’ve got your baseline.
Do one for 5km
One for 10km.
And work up from there.
