  • 34/201 at Boars Head Fell tonight. Fun.

Edit 1 lower place in published results.

  • Well done. It's a good course.

Anyone here had issues with flat feet or big toe mobility? I injured my foot last year and my toe doesn't bend properly anymore. Not fun for someone competing regularly and used to running 3x a week..

Got some orthotics but it's done very little. It has also greatly affected my cycling. My hopes to do the Snowdonia marathon this year in a good time are looking less and less likely..

  • ^ cheers, course was great, having run Bowstones at New Year helped with knowing roughly what to expect and pacing as a result. Still descending the steep bits like Bambi on Ice, should go practice really.

  • Re: foot, Could you use toe to scrunch a tea towel on hard floor to help with mobility? Sounds daft but helped me with a lower leg problem that had toe strength & mobility as probable cause.

Edit as always, sports injury physio a good call etc etc

  • It was a big evening at the club championships tonight. After the 400 A and B races, the 400 a won in 51.8, it was time for the 3000.

In the worlds shortest shorts was @PhilPub, accompanied by your correspondent. 7.5 laps later the pain was over. @philpub narrowly beaten on the line, possibly due to checking his watch 4 metres too early, nevertheless 9.27.9 is a tidy outing for a v.... sneaking over the line thanks to a valiant finishing sprint i ran 9.24.3.

    join our club. run fast.

  • That's very fast. Well done both.

  • Great run @juanito!

It was certainly an interesting way to celebrate my birthday. You'd think after 44 years I'd know better but here's the schoolboy error in action: pipped on the line by 0.1 secs fiddling with my stop button. (Juanito's probably just collapsed out of shot.) D'oh!

Ah well, 10 seconds outside my PB but a season's best. And the ale tasted excellent afterwards.

  • proof that every day is a school day!

GFA entry accepted for London, unfortunately I've managed it too late as my family are due to move out of blackheath early next year, so no free pre race accommodation!

  • @stonehedge lives near the heath now, sure he'll happily put up all the forumengers the night before. you don't mind top and tailing right?

  • Sounds good - I'll be living very close to part of the route by then and I'm sure my gf can manage another child for 2hours... :)

Since mid-May, Young has travelled on foot all the way from Los Angeles and he plans on arriving in New York City in early July. He
has to cross the country in under 46 days and 8 hours to break the
record, and he is on pace to do so. The data shows that Young runs
between 50 and 90 miles a day on three hours of sleep.

That is, unless he’s a massive fraudster who has been lying about the
whole thing and secretly traveling in an RV at running pace.

    discuss

  • started running two years ago .... he’s won almost 100 marathons and ultramarathons

    Ok.

    Squeaked in under 24 hours

It's good, but not quite the superhuman runner performance that his website & wiki page suggest

  • He's the next mark vaz.

Dropped out of a battersea park 10k this morning. Shouldn't have got out of bed.

  • Popular marathon runner Robert Young, who has penned the book 'Marathon Man' and is currently in the US looking to run across the country and break a world record of his own, had also called foul on Mr Vaz's claims.

"It just undermines the sport that we love."

  • Battersea Park 10k, first event in a while. 49.55. Chuffed, might get back into running now.

  • Well done, not many people round here have beaten juanito.

  • Cheers dude

  • Good run. I must have seen you while watching the rest of the race.

  • Dropped out of a battersea park 10k this morning. Shouldn't have got out of bed.

    Hangover from the 3k?

My legs have been wrecked since Weds nights Race, gentle long run tomorrow all being well.

  • That's why doubters be doubting I guess.

  • Probably a bit of that and a bit of lack of desire.

Guy who beat me on Thurs won in 33:55.

  • You'll have to draw a Target on his back or something...

  • My 20 week 50 plan kicks in today. Shared for giggles / feedback.

Red are duration sessions. Built around 1 increasing session & 2 double day commutes that will be run at the magic 140bpm.

Hills visits will focus on downs more than ups, i'm losing big time descending but was power walking past or with those running them on Weds. Ups will be more about controlled pace and limit hr rise.

Black numbers are 'event' distances, all at target race effort except Race The Train 14.1 as i'll race that.

  • why so many doubles rather than just running every day and a rest day every two weeks?

I've just had a little look at that Rob Young guy. He's a massive liar. His website lists pbs of 15:56 (5k), 30:47 (10k), marathon (2,41). His powerfo10 (results website for all uk athletes, lists every major race that a uk athlete is involved in) has him as 5k (not listed) parkrun pb 18:55, no 10k pb, marathon pb (3:07).
