Similar situation going in to, erm, park run this morning. So hardcore, wow.
Smashed it and got a PB +7th place
Thinking was that the quicker I go the quicker it's over and the sooner can I ruin the toilet, again
Fun times

Last on a parkrun again. MiniGB took 4 minutes off her PB though.

Has Dammit finished yet?

looks like it

Yep, just got back to the hotel and wishing it had a bath as well as a shower.
Short story- my goal was to finish, I finished, woo.
Longer story- 4:24, which under other circumstances I'd be very unhappy with, but given the circumstances I'll take it.
Things to resolve for next time- hot spot under ball of right foot has to be resolved, it's mad pain fam. Will avoid burgers in week before run. Do more training!

Well done. Given the circumstances you can definitely be happy with that outcome.

4:24
Nice one, as you say given circumstances. Could easily have been a 6hr portaloo crawl...
Plans for the next one?

I'll likely enter this one again.
If I'd trained better for this I'm very confident that I could have run an hour faster, well- if I'd not had that burger at any rate.
There's very definitely (for me) a huge performance drop off just as soon as I go beyond the distance I am used to/confident of (which is ~22k)- so I'll make 30-35k runs a regular thing, maybe trying to get a full 42.2 in every now and again.
I do really need to resolve the hot spot issue, I wonder if that is my foot getting tired? That said I did cure it (for a while) by pulling my shoe off, loosening the sock and massaging the ball of my foot. Sadly it came back with a vengeance later.

I suspect that this (lifted from another runner who got tagged as a Strava Fly-by) tells the story of my run (2016 distance and training time/marathon times):

Assuming you're 12 months away from next time, spend 6 months getting niggles sorted & enjoying running (shorter goals maybe), then 6 months from next year's race build gradually upto consistent steady 16 miles ish as a starting point for a 12 to 16 week focused prep for next time. Get the big sessions done well in that prep block as some were missing this time.

Thanks for the advice, before and now.
One question- the foot hot spot/pain thing only comes in after 13-14 miles, is that likely to simply be conditioning, so more miles= It goes away?
-
• #13664
Many possible factors, eliminate what you can (lacing, old tired trainers) then if still problem get a physio or foot specialist on the case.
-
• #13665
Wore new trainers for the run, hoping that the pain was due to old knackered ones.
I'll go see the physio when back from Colorado
-
• #13666
It could even be something like a muscle imbalance somewhere meaning you're landing heavier on your hot-spot foot. I am not a physio though, good idea to go visit one though, especially before starting a big load of marathon training.
Oh and some yoga - Yes @_Leon I'll be attending your sessions soon now I live close by.

well done mate. top work.
do you remember going through my ssideline pals cheer section? I believe the catchphrases for the day were "fuck the bridge" and "run like hell".
they also had my mate don who is the loudest person I know cheering so i would be shocked if you didn't spot him on your way round. he had a bandana on and was wearing the american flag like a cape so somewhat memorable.

• #13670
Yep, pretty sure I saw them - the bridge is the only climb, I flew up it like a gazelle on steroids the first lap, then trudged/ran/trudged/ran the second time (when those guys had appeared).

Only went and rolled my bleddy ankle like a bleddy idiot today didn't I? Just as I was getting back into the swing of things after post-marathon slump, injury, and holiday. Right at the start of my run too. Managed to nurse it through 6k but had to be careful on any uneven ground. Hurting a lot now :(
-
• #13672
Welcome to my gang!
(hope it stops hurting soon)
-
• #13673
Well I managed 6 miles on it this morning so it's not too bad, still tender if I land on it wrong so had to be careful on uneven surfaces (i.e. all of my run!) but seems it's not too broken.

Good going, all that barefoot training must be paying off.
You in for Bournemouth half?
-
• #13675
Before this week I'd only done 3 runs since London marathon! Getting back into the swing of things now though. Met a nice chap this morning who is running Endure 24 at the weekend, targeting 100 miles(!), most of his training is running to work.
Yeah I reckon we'll be down for Bournemouth half. Gf is keen for another HM. Just need to sort out childcare so we can both run, otherwise I'll be cheerleading! You running it?
Scorching here now- mid to high twenties it feels like. A few minutes before the gun now.
