Go on a road bike forum and ask "which of these 2 road bikes should I buy?" and you'll get loads of people actually answering the question. On here, a fixed bike forum, no one gives a fk.
now, come on here and ask which shit, leather, old looking saddle you should buy, or where to buy pink tyres, and you're sorted.
Well, you're living up to your forum name. There's not only stacks of info on the forum there are stacks of places telling you how to make the best use of it without annoying people who have been here a while and have just got a bit tired of being helpful by answering the same question again and again.
The forum is a friendly place. And if you don't believe me you can stick your head up your arse. -

Which is exactly why bikeradar is a waste of time these days. Some fuckwit was running a poll on which tyres he should put on his bike earlier this week! What a twat.
I've no problem with people asking for opinions but they'll get a much better response if they actually do some work first and make the effort to suss out what they want.
Anyway, why should we give a fuck if Icycle buys a Pista or a Swobo? I couldn't give a fucking toss either way.
Happy new year to you.

I've ate someone's hat?
It is a friendly place, unless you are new.

He IS making the effort, by coming on here asking people in the know.
here's the situation, you don't know anything about fixed bikes, but you want to try one. You see the bianchi and the swobo and think "well they look nice" but you don't know which would be a better bike, after all you've only seen them on the internet.
So you think "I know, i'll go on londonfgss, they are experts on these type of bikes, theres bound to be dozens of people who have experience of both bikes."
if you "don't give a fuck" then don't post. cunt.
seasons greetings.

That can't be true though, think about it. Everyone's new at some point. It's not like there are just 5 original members on here in some elitist clique, otherwise how would anyone else join in, meet people, go to drinks, go on rides? I'm a very infrequent poster and casual reader yet I've had invites etc. Mind you I didn't try and ingratiate myself by telling people to fuck off.

Well, about fixed gear bikes in general, is there that much to know? Not a great deal more than has been covered on here many times before anyway. I often think people just don't help themselves - if a question suggested that someone had made any effort to try and decide between 2 bikes themselves and wondered if anyone had experience of them you might find people a bit more receptive rather than just "X or Y folks?" - why it's narrowed down to a choice between X and Y already would help.
Even when there's a wealth of experience and knowledge people are going to get pissed off if it seems people just want everything handed to them on a plate. It's really really not that hard to search, on here, on google, lurk, read old threads, read Sheldon Brown etc etc. Then a simple question might be a bit more interesting too, not just another "tell me what to do"
The alternative's everything being answered regardless. Imagine a computer games forum with people asking "xbox or playstation?" (i'm sure they exist). You'd probably end up with 20 threads a day full of "xbox ftw!" "playstation sux, lame!". Great.
This topic has been done to death on here the past few months though anyway, so I apologise to everyone for keeping it going. It'll get though eventually right? Maybe not eh.
if you "don't give a fuck" then don't post. cunt.
seasons greetings.
(and if you lurked and read old threads for more than 10 minutes you'd realise that's not really very offensive at all on here)

I am pretty new here myself and have found it to be a forum where people say it like it is, that is all. Ask a stupid question and you will be told it is a stupid question. Don't bother researching anything and expect everyone else to do your work for you and you be not get much help.
I have got some useful advice/opinions from my few questions and it seems like a funny, but realistic forum to me.

It's not really a friendly forum to beginners IME, it's more of a social forum. Which is fine, BUT, how can you slag someone off for coming onto a fixed bike forum and asking about 2 fixed bikes ??? as has happened in this thread.
And I doubt icycle will be going to drinks.

Look at the responses on here:
"Do a fucking search you lazy sod. "
"Fuckin 'ell!I saw two apples in Tesco before, one was red, the other green, didn't know which to buy......... "
"I have just flipped a coin for you and it is telling you to buy the Swobo. Best of 3? "Very welcoming to a new user. As said, go on bike radar with the same question, and you will get answered. Perhaps that's because bikeradar is full of adults who ride bikes? who knows.
fwiw, I found the forum very helpful with my own requests, but threads like this take the piss.

If you think it's so fucking shit then why don't you fuck off? You'll not be missed.
-
• #37
Did I say it was "so fucking shit" ? I said it was unwelcoming to new members. If he's on this forum, presumable he's done plenty of googling, searching etc, then signed up, waited 48 hours to start a thread and ask the "experts" about 2 bikes. What's wrong with that?
I've been on here a few days, of course I wont be fking missed. calm down andrew.
-
• #38
you have to define 'unwelcoming to new members'
are you expecting some fawning platitudes and a fanfare for joining?
I've said it before, the forum is a lot like a local pub with it's own language, customs, in-jokes and characters. Sometimes it's a bit rough, sometimes you will get the piss taken but that's how things go
I wouldn't say it's unwelcoming - just takes a while to figure out

Hat He Chewed - dude, chill out. If you prefer bike-radar than the answer is obvious. If you're easily offended then HTFU if you wanna stay here (I obviously recommend you HTFU).
Regardless, you need to stop being so righteous for a relative newcomer.
The OP was lazy, but not stupid. he/she would have got much more helpful answers had his query been more detailed, giving a bit more background of riding he/she did and perhaps aspirations over types of riding he/she wants to do etc. thats how I would have approached it, especially if I did not live in London and did not have the luxury of actually being able to try out both of these bikes in a shop before purchasing.
there is a wealth of information on the bianchi pista here and on the net, slightly less so on the swobo sanchez, but I know for a fact cole at onelesscar reviewed one.
edit: infact at the bottom of this page there is a heading entitled SIMILAR THREADS which are available to anyone willing to use the search function here or google.

Okay, here is helpful. Icycle, if you are very tall then buy this
http://www.stif.co.uk/gear/select_options.asp?productid=5462
No contest as the price is almost half of the Bianchi. If you are not very tall then just buy what you think looks better (both bikes are much of a muchness), assuming you think the Bianchi looks £140 better...
-
• #42
are you expecting some fawning platitudes and a fanfare for joining?
obviously not.
But a simple "the pista is better than the swobo" is better than "use the fucking search you moronic cunt". Is it that hard to discuss a couple of bikes? it's a bike forum is it not?
fuck, why are people even posting on the thread if they aren't going to help the OP? why not just ignore the thread?

I don't prefer bike radar, i just used it as an example.
offended? no, annoyed more like.

You're 100% right, however that was said in the first reply, and he even apologised for not giving enough detail.

oh you poor, deluded fool - threads staying on topic and being relevant! have you not read any of the forum yet?

haha, I meant that it's surely better to post nothing at all, rather than "you're a cunt, use the search you fucking cunty cunt."

see - now you're getting into the swing of it, you'll be coming along to drinks before ya know it

This forum is grand really, it's only daft questions that get sarcastic answers. A simple 'A or B' question gives the impression that you've done no research. Not even giving details like what you want it for or anything is just opening yourself up to this kind of response.
"I'm going to be trying some racing on the track soon, and want a suitable bike. Both the Bianchi and Swobo look the part, but I'm kind of clueless, which is more suited", or "I want to be a hipster and ride a fixie around the place so the girls will love me -which is cooler, pista or swobo" would be better questions to ask :)

yes I agree. no amount of googling will tell you which is better, but by first doing so you can at least try and form your own opinion. very important IMO.
the forum is a peculiar beast, try not to get too annoyed.
- also I would never call someone on here a cunt if I had not met them before and had some kind of rapport with that person.

It's not as if Icycle is that much of a newbie either having registered in October.
HTFU is the mantra today I think.
