  • Mine was metal(ish) axe men. It would be a very different five if this thread were called 60's/70's rock guitarists.

    Define metal I suppose.

you're right, zeppelin ain't metal really, and I was going to put pagey 5 times, but couldn't forget who he ripped off, and who he ripped of.

I can't chose 5 metal axemen right now, I have to get my shit together for tomorrow!

  • What about The Mars Volta do they count as metal?

  • In no particular order:

    KK Downing and Glen Tipton
    Dave Murray and Adrian Smith
    Kirk Hammett
    Trey Azagthoth
    Dimebag/Diamond Darrell
    Rocky George

(I know that's more than five)

    1. Tony Iommi
    2. Kirk Windstein
    3. Brent Hinds
    4. Matt Pike
    5. Dimebag Darell

  • In no order

    Tim Sult
    Zakk Wylde
    Adam Jones
    Fast Eddie Clark
    Josh Homme

  • Eddie van halen
    Azagthoth
    Schuldiner
    Suicmez
    Dime

  • which do you prefer, denim or leather??

  • that was a joke

  • A cut off denim over the top of a leather jacket. With loads of Dio, Diamond Head, Twisted Sister and Rainbow patches ironed on.

  • In some sort of order (although it is hard to be sure without going through my CD collection):

    Bill Steer
    Kim Thayil
    Tony Iommi
    Ben Weinman
    Page Hamilton

  • Kim Thayil wins.

  • Kim Thayil wins.

    Correct

  • bill steer...nice one tom

  • YouTube - Broadcast Yourself.

Even as a kid, he was a god! Even with the hair.

  • he was only about 18 then. a true metal fucking god!!!

  • listening to pantera's "medicene man" with a stella, good combo.

  • for those who haven't already, check out aura noir if you like scrubby old school thrashy black metal ala venom. fucking amazing stuff.

French black metal, not so bad ...

  • Lots of French BM at the moment - Arkhon Infaustus aren't very typical of the scene though? Death Spell Omega, Alcest, etc are good.

Wolves In The Throne Room at the Underworld in a few weeks anyone?

  • top 5 axe men... ( they change every day... ) but probably the most influential to my playing are,

    Guthrie govan,
    steve morse,
    jeff beck,
    michael romeo,
    tony Iommi.

top 15 would have made things much easier, selection is very tricky... lol ill probably regret not putting a few down 2morrow, nvm.

  • not really a man of black metal, something i've ne ver really been into, apart from the obvious mayhem and emperor

  • Top axe players totally varies from day to mood to day but Randy Rhodes has to be in there, Angus (circa if you want blood) after that I'm not sure. Used to get totally obsessive about who was fastest, meanest, bestest, axe heroe, drummer, bassist (Butler and Flea) now I just like listening to all of it and rarely even read the sleeve notes.

PS: fast eddy should be in there and actually Brian Robertson for the bluesy motorhead album another perfect day.
