Fair enough but historically Page, Blackmore etc. were/are metal, otherwise it can all get a bit OTT and spinal tap with who is most metalish etc. For me anything that has or is described as metal warrants a listen, apart from warrant of course... :)
Mine was metal(ish) axe men. It would be a very different five if this thread were called 60's/70's rock guitarists.
Define metal I suppose.

I strongly believe iommi defines the metal sound. His guitar sound for such early days was monstrous!!! He had to have extra wax in his pick ups to try reduce feed back from such high output (or something like that). Laney once built him their first 200watt head some time during the 70s (early-mid I guess), it fucking blew up. Seems he was always pushing for a heavier sound.

I see the definition of 'Heavy Metal' has already been stretched wafer-thin in some earlier posts, so you only have yourselves to blame. I can't believe we've got to...however many posts this is, whatever...without a mention of metal gods Nitro. Meet Bobby Rock - he's the drummer. I have a veritable arsenal of images of hair metal greatness, and I'm not afraid to use *any *of them...

Sabbath and Slayer are two of my fave groups!
Sabbath in particular do not get enough credit for essentially invtenting heavy metal.
My fave current group is Lamb of God, who I am seeing next month, Cant wait!

Never got to see them :(
Saw Dillinger last year though with Gil Sharone on drums, Greg Puciato kicked me in the face when stage diving and then grabbed me by the back of my neck to stop the bouncers pulling out of the crowd, that was a fun gig :)

Saw these guys play some hut in Denville, New Jersey when they toured with Ion Dissonance and From A Second Story Window years ago. One of the weirdest shows I've been too - the venue was like a local cricket club, in the middle of some woods in this shitty back water town.
Also, not their best song. I prefer Jesus & Tori.

I'm not going to check through the thread - if Amplifier have already been noted, they deserve to be mentioned a second time. If not, please sit back and enjoy......
