  • yeah, pantera did planet caravan, phil's cheesy american stadium rock style vox kill it though. not a fan of that song anyway. But yeah, great stuff, especially for death metal, all the floridan stuff, early c.corpse, deicide and obituary. That decade also saw the birth or technical death metal and grindcore flourish further (danny lilker formed brutal truth after nuclear assault). It all went shite towards the end of the 90s though and present day is full of throwback thrash bands rehashing what has been done over 20 years ago. Fuck you earache, sellout cunt label.

I used to have an earache comp tape called 'Grindcrusher.' It was awesome. Florida was really, really good for metal. I lived in Tampa for awhile, but it was after the whole scene had gotten lame.

  • i should get ready to go out and get ruined. I could talk about metal all bastard day, you should hear me when i'm pissed though. If any of you guys know cake (jay), he'll tell you!!

  • strapping young lad???

  • glad to see such a good response to this thread!!

  • Look out.. it could go wrong at any time! ;)

  • I was so tempted to post something stupid, but then thought NO! and posted this in stead. WAC!!

  • suffocation's human waste is one of the best death metal albums (actually an e.p). You can't also beat a bit of fucking carcass!!! Best shred to work now.

Carcass were great. Were though, cos Swansong had to be the most anticipated and most disappointing album ever, very sad. Everything before that though... saw them twice on the (last?) tour, the one with Cubanate supporting, where there were semi "riots" because some knuckleheads didn't like them having an electronic band supporting them, sigh. Cubanate - Antimatter is a brilliant album too though probably a bit dated now, hope I've still got a copy

yeah swansong is fucking shite, they were signing with a major at that point too, which all went tits up. Everything they did was amazing though, esp reek of putrefaction and heart work. Every album was a progression, from messy sloppy grind to full on melodic power metal riffs

  • as for maiden, I only like them with dianno mostly...PROWLER!!!

  • Swansong is better than people make out. Blackstar is an awesome song.

  • That's my cousin that is, top bloke. Met you at the party but you were pretty out of it so you may not remember, this was just before you damaged yourself, how is the hand?

  • YouTube - SiKth - Scent of the Obscene

Gone are my days of really heavy shit, like Corrosion of Conformity and Nuclear Assault etc

These days I don't really listen to much heavier than stoner rock. Sikth being an exception.

  • the alvin startdust of metal
YouTube - Danzig - Twist of Cain

  • my favorite sabs track, just cos ward's drumming is a fine example of drums being used as a musical instrument in rock music, instead of just a metronome

    YouTube - Broadcast Yourself.
