  • at the moment i have bodged it on there to protec the brake but ryan's gonna braze a rack mount or something on so it can be orientated properly. Barspin goals once i change to some flat bars. Not poss with the brake dipped down how i like it.

  • look closely bogey

thats awesome B.... next up flat bars!

  • I don't get FBO, but all you cool kids are doing it so it must be cool...
    #FBOisretarded

  • just got one from john in the post, dont think i can get it to work with my stem though.
p.s. joe, not cool, but the bike feels so clean now its almost cableless. cleanliness is next to godliness!

  • New cranks also B? must be pretty light now?

  • yep new / old. Musta lost a kilo what with change of saddle, front wheel and cranks.

  • i just hope snoops doesn't spot me coming from a mile off.

  • is there anything out there that can take 700c x 40-47mm and has something like 75 degree geometry?

    Mine, custom Marino.
    I'm 1,70mts tall, with 26mm fork rake and 175mm cranks I don't have pedal overlap. (55cm TT)

  • another goalie bike

the kilroy can take those tyres, not sure about its geo though

this is shane's set up for polo

  • yea, as alex said, the kilroy can take those tyres. i have a 28c in the back, and there's so much space. it's easy to see the frame was designed for 700x50c. with a short fork, the geo is pretty good. this is the identiti ffx 20 (20mm rake, 393mm a-c).
main problem is these frames are hard to come across, and not too cheap. tokyo fixed gear had a few knocking around a few months ago. don't know if they still have them.
i'm sure marino could make a custom 700c frame with the right tyre clearance easily enough. probably be a good bit cheaper if you're on a budget.

  • So I still need a few things for my bike.

    Stem & Bars.

Anyone know of a light (under 200g would be good) black 25.4mm flatbar, I'm struggling to find one, it's all oversize.

  • I noticed condor had some 25.4 flat bars last week...

I went into get a deda logo stem...they have every size but don't display them, you have to ask at the counter for the size you want...

  • Blimey, they have all gone fat!
This Race Face one claims to come in both clamp sizes, any good?

  • Yeah actually, some how I missed that one on CRC. It's a touch heavier than I had hoped, but for that price I guess you can't go wrong.

  • still worth called Condor, don't think they were more than 15 or so (didn't check price)

  • I think you need some scandium in your life:

  • Oh shit....... 123g FTMFW

  • Right, next thing will be a lightweight all black stem, to fit 25.4.

    80mm is pretty standard right?

  • I can get Deda stems for £13.

100mm is standard I would say. 80mm is small, lady sized [beagle face].
With your height, depending on your bike geo, you might be able to go longer, 120mm could also be considered standard. I think consensus is the longer the better.

    EDIT
and this flat bar for £15

Also a lot of truvativ stuff.

  • If you're buying a new stem anyway, why not open up your options to include OS stuff?

  • Lightweight alu bar for Polo? Are you fucking mental?

John, you have nice teeth. Keep them.

Landslide makes a good point about the OS... It'll be stiffer and stronger. But still Alu, which after a few tumbles could fail at any time :/

I'm a massive weight weenie, but steel bars feature on all but one of my bikes. Too many horror stories.

I went up to 120mm on my Marino to stop the front end lifting too much. The increased tiller felt weird at first, particularly when sprinting out of the saddle, but it's fine now. I'm 188cm, so maybe a bit shorter than you.

OS is definitely an improvement, but it's annoying chaning every single stem/bar combo you own or want to experiment with.

I don't think bars come under that much stress in polo (never seen one so much as bend), and they are often very narrow, which reduces the strain further. I've used mega-light XC aluminium ones from the 90s for ages without problems. I reckon it's landing from height that is the biggest stress on bars, especially without suspension, which is why mtb trail/downhill bikes still use aluminium and not steel.

Like practically everyone else in the world, I would only put steel bars on a BMX or dirt jump bike.

  • 90mm stem and 7 quid flat bar from ebay. I think the brand is 'exotic' or something. I'd stay 25.4 for decent choice of clamp area. Some OS bars have a very flared middle, if that makes any sense?

  • I'm still getting used to the 90mm stem on my Mister X.

I would love to try a 60mm to get that whipiness back.
