I've got xtr, and they do work really really well, but would trade up for a set of avid ultimates (if they weren't horrendously expensive).

agreed
stealthy
sealed cartridge bearings in the pivot, that is awesome. Avid do it better.

• #2504
thanks, good advice, nice one
I bloody missed the auction for xtr's by 1 minute though, spitting at myself now but c'est la vie, will look into avids next . -

My XTRs have that.
-
• #2506
ha, i knew that would backfire.
-
• #2507
Not sure if the older models do.
The Avids are really nice though. I recommended XT/XTR to pique cos the rim is so narrow that the pads on normal Vs just arc downwards towards the spokes, the parallelogram of XT(R) should help with that.

my cheap tektros work great!
-
• #2509
Yep. No probs with my Deores.
You don't have to spend big bucks on v-brakes.
If you get them set up right and some decent pads, cheaper ones will suffice.I would be interested to test out the higher range brakes to see the (if there are any major) differences...
Discuss.

so i got some jol strapes the other day and now need bmx peddals...what people riding?
-
• #2512
nearly every BMX pedals will do, from cheap Welgo to middle range DMR to pretty but expensive Fly ones
you need to look for the hole between the platform, the ones close to the axels, I know of some pedal that need to be hack with a dremmel or with a file to open the holethere is somewhere a thread, maybe Jol's strap one with a list of pedals that CrazyJames put together. I will look for it but I'm in the school and the firewall make it a pain

cheers rik. i used to ride v12's on my jump bike but they're so expensive these days... i almost bought some twisted gusset ones as evans owe me £15 and they're £15 i just wasn't sure if making the hole wouldn't be detrimental to the strength of them but i think i'm going to grab them on the way to the studio as they're basically free seems as i got the £15 thing.

plastic pedal seen a good choice because if you have pedal strike the plastic ones dont bite the tarmac and you have more chances to dont bail
-
• #2515
found the thread, check the list for pedals
have in mind that CrazyJames has deep pockets and all if chooices are of nice stuff
cheap Welgo will do as good if wont last as long -
• #2516
Or ask object, I hear he collects them.
-
• #2517
DMR v12 mag, nothing else.
-
• #2519
out of interest, why do plastic bmx pedals exist? Is it just for a budget option or is there some kind of advantage in using them for certain bmx disciplines?
I suppose they wouldnt tear up an indoor skatepark when you bail, in the same way you can't use certain pedals on an indoor velodrome...?

I broke two seperate odessy plastic pedals. i am heavier than aidan but surley not that much heavier.

• #2521
cheaper and lighter?
also, if you're not running pegs, plastic pedals slide better (pedal grinds)?
-
• #2522
I'm sure I've asked this before but I can't find it... so...
What are the budget crank recommendations (non-130 bcd) which would allow me to stick something like a 37/39 on the front?
-
• #2523
but one of the chainring bolts is behind the crank arm, so some bashguards won't fit. i've cut mine to fit.
-

DMR v12 mag, nothing else.
Thats what i run, but have taken all of the studs out as they were like trying to get your foot out of a vice with em in. Great straps

If you decide to go for DMRs then Wellgo pedals are made in the same factory and normally a fair amount cheaper.
my avid single digit 7s work great, IMO XTR are over-engineered. They work great by all accounts but a V-brake is a simple concept, Shimano are getting a bit techy for me.
