  • That's not true. BB 7 has one moving and one fixed pad too, they use the same pads as juicy hydraulics, BB 5 use a smaller pad, they ain't interchangeable. This is true unless there has been some major recent redesigns or if the road calipers are significantly different and that's what you are on about.

  • Um, they both only have one moving pad during braking - the outside one. However the inside one can manually be adjusted on the bb7 and not on the bb5

  • Damn it ^

  • Both pads are adjustable, unlike the BB5. But not both pads move.

Sebs new brake, the TRP Spyder, has pads that move both sides of the rotor, but he's only using this on his cross bike which is frustrating as I'd like to know what it's like with flatbar levers.

  • Dammit, pushed glasses up on nose and was about to say 'I think you'll find...'

    Bike nerds assemble.

  • TRP Spyer are short pull but should work fine with normal v brake levers which will give you a sharper pull. That said, if you run a Shimano lever with power adjuster or the Avid lever with pull adjuster, you can dial it to your preference. Would have had a pair ready for polo use but fatbirds ran out of stock and will have to wait till end of October.

Still the best response by far.

  • haha, it's the thinking twitch of any glasses wearer

  • So does everyone get up at 10am on Sunday just to post on the forum? Or was there a special call made to correct me? If everyone knew the answer, why did no one answer metroid?

Is it possible that old bb7's have two moving pads, I've got something that was sold to me 2nd hand as a bb7 and I'm pretty sure both pads move?

  • Both pads move in the sense they're adjustable, but only one pad is actuated by the lever.

  • I got a call. But yeah they are both adjustable but only one is moved by the lever. I figured the link explained the differences ok so didn't add to it, I'm not one to post superfluous things.

  • Are there pics of all these new dolan polo bikes?

  • Thanks for the info guys. Will be going with BB7.

    what about your oak?

  • Dolan HT angle looks a bit slack for polo but I suppose you can't knock it for that price.

73 is too slack? Depends on your riding style and whether you use the same length fork as standard.

kind of- different model (and before the carlton), my first proper polo bike.

  • Looks like a TT bike. Steel?

Emyr's right, it all depends on the fork geo. I like the frame because it's stiff and light – steel bikes my size are neither – and the 58cm frame doesn't have an overly long top tube.

It's still too soon to say it's a good frame for polo as longevity has not been proven, let's see how they fare through the winter. But it's definitely a very good value frame that can be easily adapted for polo.

  • Alternatives to Middleburn?

I'm looking for some external BB cranks, 175mm (or longer), strong, light, 32 teeth (or similar).

I'm not looking for some botch job, but something designed for the task.

The Middleburns are great, but a few have broken in transit. I guess I could just get a spare chainring, in case.

    Any suggestions?

  • SLX or any shimano mtb above them.
