That carbon protector looks a bit like half of this:

(Also a fifth of the price)
Couldn't you fix it with some p clips? -

CrabonPlastic or GTFO!Nice when it does break, lots of little asbestos like shards in yer skin.

Splinters of carbon fibre should be less risky than wood splinters when embedded in skin; The material won't degrade so the risks are contaminants drawn into the wound.
...
When carbon fibre was fed into a hammer mill, only low concentrations of dust of respirable size could be produced and less than 1% of the respirable carbon particles were fibrous. The dust cloud contained a few transparent fibres, probably glass, of respirable size. When the dust was inhaled by guinea pigs...[snip]
No pathological effects were observed.So... no asbestos-like effects from traditional Carbon Fibre.
Carbon Nanotubes, on the other hand, are shaped like asbestos fibres, and are found to behave like asbestos fibres.

Cool science bro.

I don't think gabes suggested this at all, read properly Em...

I addressed the shards in the skin part...
...and the asbestos-like part.
Show me a report in a peer-reviewed journal which confirms the danger of asbestos-like effects in failed carbon-fibre sports equipment and I'll happily replace my badly-cut-down carbon bars for everyone's safety.

The respirable bit on asbestos, gabes didn't mention that carbon has the same properties, you however inserted a quote on that... #justsayin

If you're running a mech, it's worth looking at any shimano shadow+ models, they have a much lower profile. Shimano Zee is also short cage and low profile. I run one, it's a tiny mech, solid as fuck and has a clutch to stop chain slap.

I have one of those at the moment (cheap and good enough) but I need a 135 axel to fit it. Mi actual axel is 130 which is not enough.

After a test run I think the gearing may be a touch too high. Has anyone got a 19t/20t freewheel or 32t chainring (104mm BCD) in 1/8" width for sale?

Ask horatio. He might have a CR like that to sell .

Does anyone know the difference between Avid BB 5 and 7?
-
• #10275
In case you can't be bothered to read that, the main difference is that bb5 is one moving pad and a stationary pad (that you can adjust, but doesn't move when you pull the brake lever) while the bb7 is 2 moving pads that clamp together... Much much better.
(On the link someone says the pads on bb7 are bigger, I don't know if this is true out of the box, but I use the same pads for my bb7's and 5's)
Oh I should add that lots of people say it's not worth upgrading from bb5 to bb7, I think it is for polo, but my dad bike (as Ali called it) has bb5's and although I'd like to upgrade, I've not got round to it in the last year.
Weld a strengthening gusset onto the Hija's stay, drill, tap, bolt on crabon
