  • ^^Fair enough. But a supporter who wants to find a 'clean' team with no player/club scandal will soon be switching to tennis instead.

From the game I sat and watched, Drogba cheated time and again. He's a serial cheat, and has been ever since he came to the Premiership. But having a grievance in football is just another way of confirming rivalry, so I well understand it.

  • I'm talking about the ones who can see a superior footballing team dominating a game by playing the most beautiful football ever seen in the history of human civilisation. The same ones who don't think Chelsea only lose due to some bizarre refereeing conspiracy. You know Clive...the sane ones.

  • I presume you are talking about the ones watching on television. The small minoriity who were actually there would not agree but then they did not have the benefit of the pundits telling them what to think.

Where as you had the benefit of reasoned dispassionate discussion in the stands at stamford bridge?

You won the game. Let it be, not that *it *actually happened

  • chelsea were great tonight.

  • Barca acctualy won 3-1 but its all a FIFA/ UAFA conspiracy......

+1,000,000 he really should have been sent to a&e with the amount of "injuries" he picked up in the first half. he is a disgrace.

  • He is a disgrace, but not as bad as that little tosser Ashley Young.

  • Drogba's like Rocky. He gets seven shades of shit kicked out of him, but still manages to get the win.

Much the same as Stallone, Drogba doesn't actually get hurt but manages to get the win...

  • We were discussing this tonight. We have concluded that he just has a low pain threshold

  • Like that of a young Graham Norton?

  • clive you are becoming the edsquabble of the football thread. boring as fuck.

no we were not at the game.

we can only blame the tv for not showing us chelseas dominance and beautiful football. I guess we will have to blame the tv again when their 90% possession at the neu camp produces four cheating goals.

    Are you emphasizing a point?

  • their equals barcelona of course cant be arsed to edit my double post

  • nice to see didier " the diver " drogba back to his best

  • diving that is not as a striking force

  • My feeling though (without having seen the game - but having seen that they picked up one booking for time-wasting all game) is that Wigan were -
    (1) clever by staying just within the rules, (eg picking the ball up briefly)
    or
    (2) they broke the rules and the ref did not punish them like he should. And if he had they would have had to stop because they would have risked having players sent off, which would have contradicted what they were trying to do - ie win.

I was at the game. Al Habsi was time-wasting, which is why there were 5 mins added time at the end of the first half, and he was eventually booked late in the 2nd half, after which he packed in all the nonsense, and started kicking / throwing it out a lot quicker.

But that takes nothing away from Wigan's performance - they took their opportunities in the first half, and defended excellently, and implemented Martinez's tactics very well. Probably the difference between the two sides was that Al Habsi made 4 excellent saves in the first half, whereas Sczs wasn't quick enough to the ball for both the Wigan goals.

  • Well done Chelsea. Just hope all that chasing after the ball has knackered out the old men, and we can take advantage on Saturday.

  • Drogba did not dive last night. He stayed down when he was already down. A pause for a few seconds to interrupt the flow of the game. It worked well but he didn't dive. It is a tactic I have seen employed by many European sides. They have bnever been criticised for it. Barca didn't do it last night because it was not in their interest to do so.

Last night I was still full of adrenaline after the match. Those of you who only watch on television might not appreciate the rush of adrenaline that comes with supporting a team live. I may have said some things that may have offended some of you. If I did, I apologise.

I do not follow football objectively. I accept that. Football support is not about being objective. Indeed, quite the contrary.

Amen to that. But there's a fine line between supporting your team, and wearing a tin-foil hat.

I am not sure we chased. I think we just stood still and watched the magic that is Barcelona's beautiful football. More than happy if we do the same on Saturday. Good practice for Tuesday.

Are you going? I will be there.

  • I should add that I despise Barcelona with a passion.

If you think I was over the line last night, you should have seen me after the 2005 game when the Barca coach nobbled the ref at half time.

  • And in 2009.

  • And every other time we have had players sent off against Barca.

We have never completed two legs against them without a red card. Many of those red cards have been hugely questionable.

  • Are you going? I will be there.

Sadly not, unless I can get a season ticket return. Last time I checked, there was one club level ticket left at £200+.
