I mean I know who he is. He got sacked from Real. But do we really want another Jaunde Ramos type in? Someone unproven in England who looks the part but is probably crap

I mean I know who he is
Tell me, hand on heart that you didn't just go to google...
And for a further 5points, who did he manage before Real Madrid?
Google not allowed

Villareal. No need to google

And of course I knew he was sacked by Madrid for failing to win La Liga. But I don't know if he is any good

Bottom of the barrel.
Dregs.
That is where I have reached. Americans that I used to go to school with, are now all laughing at English soccer. So much so, and to rub it in, they're calling our (once) beautiful game, by its proper name - Football.
Imagine, Americans, abandoning their gridiron "football" moniker, to abuse us English, since their joke is, that how can we insist that it is "football", when we cannot play it.
The England team have much to answer for. What next, we become the butt of jokes on Faroe Islands comedy circuit? Lordy.
Would Harry Redknapp or Roy Hodgson been much better at managing Englishmen? I think so.

I've not been paying too much attention to group A (watched the games, but wasn't following the maths), I knew France were struggling, but I didn't realise how screwed they were.
If I have got this right, they are basically out - or as good as ?
In the next pair of games [Mexico v Uruguay] and [South Africa v France] . . . France need a win from the [Mexico v Uruguay] game - because if [Mexico v Uruguay] draw then France are out . . . and even if there is a winner in the [Mexico v Uruguay] game then France need not only to win their own game but score at least 3 goals + as many goals as the loosing side in the [Mexico v Uruguay] game + one more goal (as their goals against is lower than both Mexico & Uruguay !!!!
Basically if the [Mexico v Uruguay] score is for example 2-1 then France need to win against South Africa with at least 5 goals.
Have I got that right . . . ?
Basically they are screwed ?
To say nothing of the temptation of Mexico & Uruguay to go for a draw which will put them both through and send France home.
-
• #13867
Basically yes. Expect Uruguay v Mexico to be a very dull, training exercise to ensure they both go through
-
• #13868
Yea it depends on the mexico game.
France need to win and for there to be a win in the mexico game by enough goals that france go through on goal difference.
Whoever wins in the mexico uraguay game will take goals from the other's goal difference, thus giving france a chance to squeeze though.
I don;t think mexico and uraguay will play for a draw, but they wont go all out for a win.

Of course, I keep thinking it is . .
Points >>>> if points are equal then goals for >>> if goals for are equal then goals against.
So it's:
Points >>>> if points are equal then goal difference >>>> if goal difference is the same then goals for ?
Not that any of this helps France who are doomed in lieu of a tournament miracle of epic proportions.
I don;t think mexico and uraguay will play for a draw, but they wont go all out for a win.
It must be tempting to have a good rest and qualify by doing nothing, but watch out for the prisoners dilemma !!!
