  • Wont that be rather young still?

  • Penderyn Madeira: What a difference a bit of water makes!

Neat it's got a rather thin, overly chemical harsh taste, but when watered by about 2:1 it comes alive. Much richer, and full of subtle flavours. Given that they bottle at 46%, there's definitely some leeway to add more water at their end, as the neat stuff from the bottle isn't anything to be treasured.

Worth a half bottle at least.

Penderyn needs water. It's bloody horrible without and substantially improved with a few drops.

Turns out it was the Madeira cask I had

  • Gah- whiskey hangover.

  • Eeny meeny miny moe...

  • Just poured the last quarter bottle of 21 year Old Pultney into a glass. Going out with style :)

  • On the Diurach's Own Jura 16 myself...

  • Picture no worky

This forum makes it difficult to post my own pics sometimes.

Anyway, it was a pic of a single-cask bottling of 19-year old Laphroaig. I'd get it again and, as it's an independent bottling, it's a good price.

  • Who did the bottling? Berry Bros?

  • Montgomerie's.

  • Wow the Bowmore event filled up quick.
Still it clashed with Easts anyway.

  • ah I got in :)

  • do you get specials and discounts as part of the club?

  • Off to a tasting tonight. Mrs Landslide has a ticket too.

I asked her if we should book a taxi, she said no, she'd drive.
Wouldn't that put a crimp on her whisky tasting? "I'm not that fussed, I figured you could drink my share."

  • Also, had a dram of the Longrow CV last week. Bloomin' lovely stuff.

  • @CB - Yes. here are the next two:

    11th December - Hunters & Frankau Cigar tasting/Cognac tasting
    £15 members, £25 non-members

18th December - Soho Whisky Club members Christmas party
Auchentoshan will supply the whiskies, we will supply the mince pies and entertainment!

I've got on these two early. Toni's not into cigars so I have a spare +1 for that.

  • In for the 18th - I've even toured the distillery and have some 21 in my own collection. Excited.

  • Utterly pished. Springbank can do no wrong.

  • I'm in for the 18th as well... less decorum more whisky

edit: so yeah CB they have frequent tastings most of which are free to members... generally have to pay for cigars stuff though.

plus you get a rather nice room in soho to drink in peace and quiet

  • I was wondering more on the whiskey side. Do they offer specials/discounts on their whiskeys?

  • CB - you just need to suck it up and go with us at some point.

discount at the vintage house I believe

Unlike their neighbours. Glen Scotia have produced some of the nastiest bottlings I've ever tasted. Thought somebody had pissed into the bottle.

  • Feck it's cold. Talisker Distiller's Edition is warming me up nicely.

  • Caol Ila for me. Just cycled back from dinner and a drink and holy fuck has it got chilly since 4pm

  • Dilemma time - I've only got Caol Ila in the house and fancy a whisky and ginger. Is it ever acceptable to despoil CI with a mixer?
