  • Went to Boisdale last night in Canary Wharf - whisky menu to kill for (and given it's mainly a steak restaurant, the vegan option is whisky). 18yr old Laphraoig is phenomenal.

    Good vegan option. I approve.

  • Coq D'Argent have a Japanese whiskey night

Suntory distillery is hosting a fabulous evening of discovery on Monday 15th July 2013 from 6.30 – 8pm on The Bar Terrace.

    What's on the menu?

Following a welcome drink and canapés we will present you with 3 different Whiskeys and a Cuban cigar to match:

    Hibiki 17YO - Hakushu 18YO - Yamazaki 18YO, Perfectly matching Cohiba Maduro no 5

    Tickets are £35
Places are limited, please contact Laura or Gloria on 0207 395 5006 to book your place.

  • ^^I approved copiously all night, to the extent of losing my bag on the bus home. A great place to drink whisky if someone else is paying.

  • Yes and yes. You have a standing invitation, just let us know when you're in town.
    sottys coming down?!!? WHEN!?

  • Probably not going to be until the (polo) London Open, unless you're paying.

  • August bank holiday.

  • You would have liked it. We had a 'mystery' dram which was a virgin oak Glen Garioch. Like a sweet bourbon, and rather delicious. Apparently it goes on sale next month.

yeah... still trying to find somewhere similar that doesn't bankrupt you. Also, everyone here is fucking in love with Jamesons. No idea why, it's a shit/ok mixing whisky

  • My mum likes Jamesons, it's passable with ginger.

  • mint juleps and the wimbledon final, a bit pissed

Tempting. I've not had the Hakushu, the Hibiki is lovely, and at the last Suntory tasting I went to I remember thinking just how well the Yamazaki 18 would go with a nice cigar.

  • Have been given a bottle of Noah's Mill bourbon and OMFG

  • Anyone for a £35k Macallan?

  • so shite faced here in SF, at the bar. Run into yer woman who runs Jamesons PR here in California. Free Jamesons 18. Sure it's ok, too sweet for me. We killed a bottle of Redbreast, which I love, but really I still think they can do better.

Ya'll that are SWC members might meet her next year as I'm gonna try arrange a night with Patrick and Jamesons

  • 35cl Jura Superstition for under a tenner you say, Sainsburys? Don't mind if I do.

Reduced due to a missing box.

  • oof, good work! Superstition is nice, even nicer at that price

  • Best £9.50 I've spent in a while. Doesn't even need a dash of water. Few ice cubes and a good splosh maketh the evening.

  • the ice is filtered water at least isn't it?

  • Ice spoils good whisky. The complex flavour of a single malt needs warmth to develop

  • some people like it... they're wrong though

  • I'll sometimes put an ice-cube in a glass of some Japanese whiskies. Its nice to taste it as it slowly dilutes and it can open them up a bit.
But on the other hand, a lot of whiskies need to be kept as far as possible from ice...

  • Might go and buy myself a bottle of Ardbeg at lunchtime. haven't had one in a while and I'm feeling like I need some :)

  • Anyone else going to the cigar and whisky tasting at SWC tomorrow?

It's a good selection for both. I'm looking forward to it.

  • Yes. Yes I am. See you there D. Been a while.
