Ouch,bitter...I'm not trying to provoke you Scott but don't you think that you're going a bit overboard? I'm not being funny but this isn't real life...

There has been a thread on cars going since September 2007
http://www.londonfgss.com/thread1382.html
I agree with Scott's :
"The original element of this forum has become so unimportant now that people basically just make a mockery of every bike related thread on here now"
As it seems to me that a bikes style is slagged of more often than not, and the simple appreciation of riding fixed has been somewhat lost . . mind you with more than 5000 members what do you expect?
However there have always been random threads, and this for me is one of the great things about the forum as they often tend to be the best read
I mean, how many threads are there on photography? I dont care, but its not something i am remotely interested in, or think is bike related, but i just dont bother reading them
Ultimately i am on this forum because i love bikes, i dont ride a bike for any eco or style reason, and since i can rember and for as long as i live i will always be happiest putting the finishing touches to a build and taking her to the streets.

With all due respect Nimhbus...Fuck you.
The original element of this forum has become so unimportant now that people basically just make a mockery of every bike related thread on here now.
But show them a thread about something that people on here have been slagging off since day one in some way or another and you can't wait to jump on its dick.
If the rest of the forum has become so much of a joke now that cars get more respect than bikes you're welcome to it.
It's interesting to see that the majority of posts on this thread are all from newcomers to the forum...that to me says a lot really.
I'm done.Speaking as a relative newcomer, I think that's a bit harsh, that's like me saying that all the people who have been on the forum for x amount of time, get pissed off at a non-bike thread that's on topic, it's a sweeping generalisation, if it says a lot to you, i'd recommend not generalising people like that. You were a newcomer too once, at the end of the day, we're a bunch of people with a similar interest, we are allowed to have other interests, if you don't share it, don't talk about it. As someone else has said, there's many many more bike topics, so it's obvious that more bike topics are gonna go off topic.
Now, keeping this one on topic, i'm with BRM, a TR6 and an Elan is all a man needs, (personally I want a Sprint as opposed to the +2, but the basis is there =P)

they are amazing cars.
a mate at home has one that is the fastest naturally aspirated rotary in oz - it is an absolute weapon.I went though a phase of having several early '70s Jap cars. they are great little cars.

Scott, Have you ever heard of Spymac? a couple years ago it used to be the most popular macintosh community for almost several years, beautiful forum design, thousand of people there at once, every new version tend to be wonky but it's still the same, the people, moderator, etc. are pretty much the same for years.
(can\t find bigger pic, but here's the older version http://www.gustavonp.kit.net/fotos/spymac.jpg )
everytime there's a new version or after a year go by, there's always people going "I miss the old day, where there's not many of us, and less kids are about", but that's time, it's always going by and getting replaced by something new, but recently as of 2 years ago the cunt (Kevin April) at Spymac decided it would be brilliant to release a new version completely unrelated to the original one codename "leapfrog" just to try and grab the whole hype of 'Web 2.0" and of course, to make money by using the success of YouTube, Bebo, Flickr, etc.
look at how shit it is now; http://www.spymac.com/
it's so bad, that they're losing money everyday, thousand of people already had left and now the original Spymac (http://classic.spymac.com/ ) now labelled 'classic' is a ghost town, literally, and it hasn't even been finished!
so when I see you talking about how different this site is now Scott, at least it hasn't gone as far as Spymac did (community-wise).

@ BRM - Speaking of 1970s Jap cars... my dad had a 240z Super Samuri.
Poor git sold it when I was born - he's never forgiven me...
^ this is the only car I covet. -

lucky man!
240zs are fetching huge amounts, compared to 5/6 years ago.

Got to be the Rover SD1.
- British- yep
- First ones rolled off the line in 1976- a great year I think we all agree
- V8 power, easily (and cheaply) tuneable to 400 bhp plus.
- British

This is West London my homie: my 4 most valuable posessions total £1000 worth.
2 bicycles, a painting and a gold chain. -

not in the league of an elan or a tr6 (my opinion).
the alloy v8 does appeal, though. - British- yep

Depends really what you are after. I know I'd prefer to crash in the SD1 over the Elan.
Mind you I am looking for a Volvo to buy at the moment....The Rover V8 is actually the Buick alloy V8, tuning parts are cheap and freely available.
For your budget you could get a car that is nice and tractable around town, but fully capable of "getting daylight" at Santa pod. It'd dust Dale's old Vauxhall there as well.

suggestions for BRM
Rover 3500 (P5, P6 or SD1, they are all fabulous machines)
Jaguar XJ6 -

i'd be more interested in brands hatch than santa pod, tbo.
i've been down the 'straight-line muscle car' route and think it's more suited to oz than gb.[edit - nice chip at dale, btw, but it think an sd1 would struggle!]
i don't think i can remember a post by you that wasn't just whining about the state of the forum.
How is that a useful contribution?
