  • I'm toying with the idea of an M5 (the older ones are as cheap as chips here and I can insure one for me and the missus for under a monkey) or an R32.

  • I wouldn't even mind an auto. I'd probably give up in the end and convert it.

  • For daily driving duties I'd choose the M5 every time, for track abuse the R32.

Seriously tempted by the AWD conversion for my wagon - been bubbling away in the back of my mind since the Mrs and I had to abandon the car in the snow a couple of years ago.

    400 bhp, AWD, BOOM!

  • Got to admire the balls of someone who actually races a car that rare, and of that value.

Although it would be interesting to establish what percentage of the drivers overall value/wealth the car represents I suppose.

the value of the car is in the chassis/engine numbers. a ferrari 250 GTO will cost the same (for the purposes of the discussion) as an e-type to rebody if you bend it. an alloy panel is an alloy panel. unless you bust something you can't replace (rare), or fuck it beyond rebuilding (even rarer), obviously.

  • Fair point.

I keep looking at the stats on Red Victor- seven second pass on pump fuel.

  • a dude in the mg car club sent these pics of his b, after seeing the potatochopped pics of mine with a blower:

  • That's awesome.

  • I wonder if he could tuck the rear wheels in and up a bit?

Looks a bit like it's perching on the current ones.

No arguing with an 10 second pass mind you.

  • i don't know - he says that is is a 'home-made' set-up
Bs are known to have issues on the inside, rather than the outside when you go up a tyre size.

  • Fantastic work if it's all homebuilt.

For discussion, they won't. There were never stamping tools for a 250 GTO, they were over a wood dolly. E types were never competive racers till recently and there are lots by comparison. The GTO every car is unique, no two are alike hence poor shutlines and differing size doors wings. Having had ally panels copied made, in india and eastern europe cost of materials is similar but the labour costs were different but the work was of equal quality standard and were not as good as the factory built ones.

There is also nothing that cannot be made, the finacial implications are the major factor. Look at the fact babs was rebuilt, with lots of the original panels, even though IMO it is a grave and should have been left buried on pendine sands

  • Another few years before I can afford a skyline. Diesels and boost can keep me happy in the meantime

  • fuck off, you get my point.

  • i am pretty sure there were 998 made (mk1-3) (i have a sweet book on cobras and can remember that number for some reason), but there were loads of 'continuation' cars made after the rights were sold on. a continuation car is still 80-100k. mk1-3 cars are stratospheric, and probably all racers now.

    How many Aces were converted?

I know and have driven an original, the owner was the dad of a girl I went out with who had an amazing surname and of course her dad owned an original AC cobra. Guess why that relationship ended?

  • fuck off, you get my point.

Yes I do, but am angered by your mentioning on the e type in comparison of a 250. A d type lightwieght that is rarer than the 250, yet a work of art and amazing design.

The aces question is a genuine one, as what are the differing values of an original ace and and ace that has been cobra'd.

  • You woke up?
No questions about DIY'ing this weekend?

  • I've been to busy driving my Enzo

Is that what you call the ford 850?
