  • Series 1 Williams Clio.

Bastards to insure. Didn't they have their own race series?

  • Twas a 2.

    It pulled like a train.

You are right re the racing, it was frenetic! I had a 1.8 16v as well, cracking, if fragile cars. Best shape Clio's imo.

  • getting sorted

  • I always think black and silver plates look a bit daft on a newer car. And the police aren't keen on them either, if you get pulled over.

  • No- always a good idea to carry legal plates with you in case you get stopped, the Police can and will insist that you get the vehicle recovered if you don't have legal plates on it.

  • Plates are one of those things where you can get away with it for years and then got called on it completely out of the blue, or they can use it as a reason when there's no other evidence. Ultimately you make the choice, you run the risk.

When I switched to that square plate on my Mini, it was completely legal, but one of the multitude of times I got pulled over in MK, I was always under the limit, but 'going too fast for the conditions' in the officer's opinion. As soon as they saw the stripped interior, harness, and that plate, they'd spend as long as possible making enquiries to find out if it was all legal, I hadn't done anything illegal but they found stuff to try and get me on something. Drive like a dick and chances are you'll get pulled for the plate, drive like an angel and they'll probably let it slide unless they're really bored.

  • on a mini you will probably be alright seeing as obviously the early ones had black plates anyway.

the average policeman probably wouldn't realise

  • Wouldn't worry about the plates unless you start getting stopped.

My bike plate is about the size of a cd case and I've only been pulled twice for it in 4yrs. As long as you're insured, taxed and mot'd the police don't seem to care much these days - all of the above they can check electronically too which is a welcome change from the days of producers etc...

Looks a bit shiny though - run it through a couple of muddy storm drains and stick a dent or two in it. Bit of character.....

  • It's all that fucking chrome...

  • Success, the Works BTCC Leon that took 1st place @ Cadwell Park in Round 1 of Time Attack has been rightly bumped up to Pro class. Not sure if we'll get retrospectively given 1st and the extra points, but it will mean a more level field for the rest of the season. Exciting news!

In other good news, I'm currently negotiating with the builder and owner of this beast:

To drive it in a couple of rounds of Time Attack.

It's running a Lysholm supercharger conversion (SL55 'charger) with nitrous. Puts out around 350bhp and can run an 11 second 1/4 mile:

  • Jesus H. Christ.

  • What sort of dif?

  • One made of granite, I expect.

  • The black plates are the ones that came with it, when I swap mine onto it will just be yellow and white
What should I change so it looks less chromy other than the wheels and door steps and roof gutter?

  • Are you taking advice about cars from people you've not met who contribute to a cycling forum?

  • What sort of dif?

    Quaife LSD

It's currently a point and squirt type of car, and I'm much more used to the high cornering speed type of car but that's what they want to get out of it so I'd be looking to get it going round corners faster. Basically use TA as a development program.

  • No no, I agree as so does my dad it's a bit bling bling
I do like the chrome superlites though

  • Get spinners!

  • I'd be rollin' on 13s yo

  • Are you taking advice about cars from people you've not met who contribute to a cycling forum?

    Specifically:

Someone who doesn't drive his dream car but leaves it locked up in Essex (B&D)
Someone who is tuning a Volvo (Dammit)
Someone who sold his track car due to too many blown g/boxes and currently has a drug dealer spec driveway ornament (Me)
Someone who has been waiting for a new engine for his car for about 1.5 years (Jung)
Someone who aspired to own an SD1 as his first car (BQ)

Collectively, as car enthusiasts, we are a joke.

  • The black plates are the ones that came with it, when I swap mine onto it will just be yellow and white

Lose the chrome seam covers, lose the chrome door escutcheons, lose the chrome overriders, lose the unnecessary chrome badges and tack - GB badges and UJs.

The chrome grill is fine. If you like the Chrome Superlites, that's up to you, but like I said before, come Winter they will be fucked. Guaranteed. I've seen so many ruined.

  • Also, I've always maintained the best Mini wheels are made by Force and MB racing.

    http://www.force-racing.co.uk/wheels-13/

    http://www.mb-racingwheels.com/wheel_centres.htm

They both make proper race wheels and they are gorgeous.

If I knew how to, I'd offer some rep for that.

.....Worth adding Minky to the list?

  • All you haterz suck my balls

  • There are others on here with similarly hopeless/amusing car stories but I was specifically listing the people offering advice to V-L.

Minky does need a mention just because his story is one of the bigger jokes out of all of us.

RRC with race tuned, blueprinted, Rover V8 (this could end here and be funny enough...)
Badly tuned on multiple occasions and sips fuel at a mere 8mpg.
Sounds thunderous, intakes are large enough to suck in children and the odd vertically challenged adult.
The exhaust has broken more times than I have broken gearboxes.
Spends more time not firing on all eight cyclinders.
Got near enough written off by his own mother driving into it.
Every time he tries to sort out the bodywork and interior, something goes wrong mechanically.
