I know you dislike cars so it couldn't have been the capri....it must have been his ultra cool bomber style leather jacket that kept you mezmorized..? :] couldn't have possibly been the cheesy script??!!!
No it was the classic comedy character Arthur Daley, as played by the great George Cole:
cough 'mesmerised'

In response to an earlier post which I can't be arsed to find, there is one fixed-gear car - the Tesla Roadster. It's certainly single-speed as it only has one gear, but it's kind of fixed too in that when you come off the gas (or current, or dimmer switch, or whatever-the-fuck-it-is electric cars have) the wheels keep the motor turning, turning it into a generator, which recharges the batteries a little.
At £92,000 it's also a horrifically expensive, rebranded product of an otherwise respected, historic British manufacturer (Lotus) so maybe Tony Dafoney had something to do with it...?

it was on Top Gear last night. it completely trashed a Lotus elise.
but, it takes 16 hours to charge and costs far too much.

143 db
sounds a bit too loud to me
100db is very loud and the db scales isn't in relation to actual loudness
for every 1 ( or is it 10db ) the sound rises by the actual volume doubles
so 143 db would be like a megadeath concert right next to an ac/dc concert with 100 concordes flying over head at the same time and 1,000 jackhammers all chugging away
143 watts possiblyUPDATE !! TOP GEAR HAD THE WORLD RECORD CAR STEREO ON A FEW DAYS AGO 130-140 WAS THE WORLD RECORD VOLUME

Having driven a Tesla Roadster I can promise you it's worth every penny of the asking price, if you want a car that does 0-100kmph then €100,000 isn't that much money, it's also absolutely gorgeous and beautiful to drive and because it only has one gear and it's an electric motor you have 320Nm of torque from standstill due to the linear acceleration...it's an amazing car!! Charge time is dependant on your power source and you can top it up on the go without damaging the battery so it really is worth every penny as far as I'm concerned!

It really says a lot about this place that not a single bike related thread can ever stay on topic anymore or even get sensible answers half the time, and yet a thread about cars can manage to stay completely on topic.
Elsewhere in misc and meaningless there's a thread about the Hoyt family....truly inspirational and amazing to see...and it got 8 responses...and yet this thread is already onto it's third page.
For a bike forum i find that pretty sad personally. -

For a bike forum i find that pretty sad personally. Why?? When the G.A.A (Gaelic Athletic Association) started the members weren't allowed play any "foreign" sports...no soccer, rugby or God forbid cricket!! Sounds a bit funny and archaic doesn't it...
That was in 1884...

we've covered every bike related topic on earth during the time this forum has existed
we have posted all our bikes and posted all our weight weenie bits, our rapha scarfs / our topeak wet weather jackets
whats left to post ?
plus we all probably had a love affair with cars before we fell in love with bikes -
• #121
ooops love affair might be a bit strong

So i must really be the only person who feels that when a thread about cars on a bike forum gets more respect than threads about bikes it's pretty fucked up?
And personally i've never had a love affair with any car as i've been a cyclist all my life...which is unsurprisingly why i joined this 'bike' forum. -

this is my car and i fucking love creating CO2 with it:

Just don't see why it should be a bad thing to like Cars and Bikes, they're both marvels of engineering and aesthetically very pleasing. They're both ways of experiencing the rush and exhileration of speed...
There's a thread under this one about bread...I don't think that bread and bikes should be mutually acceptable on a forum :D
