Looks like the car wasn't just on the wrong side of the road, but was on the wrong side of the traffic island there as well. If he had made it past the bus, he'd have struggled to get back on the correct side of the road for the bridge just after it, which also has a massive central chunk of steel running along it.

A friend of a friend said this:
I was actually in the garage at the time, as far as I know it was two cars racing each other up the road at speeds estimated in excess of 100mph when they met with two buses one of which was hit and the other was witness to the event, the bus driver I believe is injured below the waist and one of the car occupants was declared D.O.A. with another critical and the third on the run along with the second car, that's all I know at present and cannot swear to the accuracy of the information as I wasn't required to attend.

Explains why the car is so badly mangled- I didn't think that that sort of damage was consistent with a (relatively) low speed impact.
The car sustained damage of the sort you see on a motorway. Just looking at the pictures I would be very surprised if the Audi was not travelling at least twice the speed limit. I would say more likely 3 times. Looks like it might be an RS4? In which case quite feasible

Considerably more horrid than news of the crash:
Read at your own risk. It'll make you feel sick.

jesus fucking christ, that's abominable.

Horrible. I watched that film with Steve Coogan and Judi Dench recently which highlighted the story of just one of the thousands of Irish single moms who entrusted themselves to the convents, I was so shocked at the story I didn't think it was anywhere near as bad as this though. Terrible.

It's amazing how light the sentence is when you brokes a couple of law that result in the death of a person.

Yep... Easier if the council admit to fucking up the signage;

Around 900 people were evacuated from the building"
How much did it cost to build?

That's been doing the rounds on Irish FB pages since a few days...sickening. And there's still assholes to these days running "pro-life" groups with those exact ideas. They're very, very silent.
Ireland has been massively screwed by its government in tandem with the Catholic Church.

Massive shame for him.
Yeah the change in speed of the bus would have been much slower by comparison so those on the bus wouldn't have suffered anywhere near the same as the occupants of the car.
